Teddy's eyes worked to draw on that grin that she was given. Caught in the act with little to no give, she was grateful that Emmett was so willing to explain herself without much hassle. There was the quintessential question she knew she'd been dying to ask her now that she'd gotten the first one done and dealt with. Anything to brush past the potentially awkward moment and move onward, she supposed.
Her mouth pulled to a different kind of smile, lacking in its original humour. It was a hard question to answer, because she didn't quite understand the intent of it. "Does it have to mean anything?" She asked her instead. "I don't see the two correlating because they don't have a reason to... Think of the other."

Of the two, there was far more interest in the news person Teddy took interest in. In part, because somehow she could only imagine Teddy managing to be tied up with two freshly out girls in a city full of gays. And she couldn't have found two that were more different. She didn't need keen eyes to see the way that smile changed, and Emmett's quirked eyebrows we're enough recognition to that.
"Well, I mean at one point you'll probably have to choose." Because unlike herself, she knew that Teddy was a little more invested in the people she chose to spend intimate time with.
She leaned back against the counter, taking another sip of her beer. "And I mean. What's it like to feel shorter than someone all the time?"

"Choosing one is the general conclusion of dating more than one person." Teddy pointed out, humour stretched in her tone. Emmett mightn't have had much experience in the matter, but she knew the common sense of that. "Its not like I have to do it now." Though she was surprised to know Emmett hadn't asked her to.
But real questioned circled around her height, and she had to laugh at that. "Oddly gratifying." She replied then. "Probably because I don't have any control over it and I never will. So that's nice. But... I'm still not willing to hang the heels up over a good feeling."

Really, Emmett wanted to know how things would turn out for her friend, especially considering she had a very biased opinion on it. She considered pushing her for a choice right then and there, but she'd already gotten ahead of herself with her questions.
Rising up on to her toes, she barely edged out the lawyer by doing so. "You could feel that way all the time around me if you bailed on them." She wouldn't dare try to out another pair on after the last time she had. Inching closer to the lawyer, she stretched herself to be as tall as she could, grinning. "I'm the clear choice here."

Teddy's eyes fell to the floor as she watched the highly agile mechanic stand on her toes without difficulty. It was true; in that respect, she did and up being taller than her. She thought to push her slightly but she knew it wouldn't change how well she stood.
"Well, you practically live here anyway." She spent more than the occasional night a week at Teddy's place. They shared the bed and everything despite a perfectly good second bedroom so close by. "Any woman who manages to stick around long enough has to be fully accepting of you or she won't be able to hang around."

Standing on her toes came easy, and she was glad that the lawyer humored her on that front. A push would have likely done nothing but encourage her teasing behavior, but when the lawyer did speak, it brought the mechanic to her flat feet again. Her usual grin took on a warmness as she exhaled a little laugh.
It was sweet to hear that she had been cemented in the lawyer's life and home. It was the one relationship she felt she could fully trust. She leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss against Teddy's lips. "Thanks." The mechanic didn't offer those words easily, and with them she immediately was on the move again, reaching for the half eaten slice of pizza. "Does that mean you think that Natalie girl will like me? Promise I won't charm her from you."

A small kiss against her lips was something Teddy reciprocated without a thought. She saw nothing from the minor act, and she knew the same could be said of the mechanic, but she couldn't imagine trying to explain this to someone like Olivia.
In the meantime the topic travelled to the other person she was seeing again. It was an easy question coupled with a quip. She grinned accordingly. "She's really very nice." Teddy replied instead. It might have been a generic word, but it was still so fitting. "I think she would like you. But then, I don't think there are many people in the world she wouldn't like."

Nice was a word that was so easy to throw around when someone lacked other qualities - usually physical. At the very least, Emmett knew that Teddy's new companion definitely didn't lack anything in that department either, so it made the mechanic more curious about her. She couldn't help the grin that appeared at the idea of being liked, head shaking with the statement that followed. "Not sure what you're trying to say about me with that." But really, she didn't care either way.
"I bet she'd love me." Who didn't, anyway?

"I might be saying your track record doesn't speak highly of you." Teddy pointed out lightly. Sure, Olivia was special case. Her opinion on Emmett in their first place had been obviously skewed, and circumstances didn't help matters at all. Still, she assumed Natalie wouldn't have the same kind of track record with her friend. She didn't need a helpful push in Teddy's direction.
"I don't doubt that, darling." She replied with care. Emmett deserved all the confidence in the world for that, "You'll get your chance to meet her in time, I'm sure." Hopefully not in the same method as Olivia.

Emmett had to laugh at the mentioning of her track record. Really, her friend was right, and it wasn't hard to see the humor in that. "Maybe I'll just go run into her at one of those yoga things or something." It wasn't unlike Emmett to insert herself into a situation. "How hard could it be?" Especially with her balance.
Another bite, and the rest of the slice had disappeared. "Wait, did she drop you off here?"

"About as hard as flipping in heels and not breaking them, I'd guess. If you've never done it before, anyway." But then, teddy was happy to steer the conversation away from such flexibility. "I think you'd struggle more with the idea of being still for so long."
Then, there seemed to be some kind of revelation for Emmett. Unfortunately for Teddy, she couldn't get ahead of whatever it was she was thinking. Blindly, she could only answer. "Yes." She said, curiosity flashing in her eyes; "Why?"

Teddy had a valid point. Stillness was not a quality Emmett was known for. She couldn't imagine trying to follow along with the slow pace of it all. It was enough to deter her from the thought entirely.
Because something far better had come to mind, and she was grinning wickedly before she could even bring the words to air. "So you're telling me I get to drive you to work the morning after your date with Olivia?" She could only imagine the paralegal's face if she found out. "Since your car is at the firm and all, I'll bring you right to your office door."

Immediately after Teddy spoke, she could see the way Emmett's mind was working. The smart kind of grin she wore had her pointedly looking at it Before back to her eyes. A lengthy sip of her wine certainly helped matters, too.
"Walking me all the way into the office? That's so generous of you." Her colleagues must have been so confused about her personal life at this point. What was the point in trying to dumb it all down? "We can get coffee. I'll shout you breakfast to show my utter devotion and thanks."

It was no unknown fact that Emmett liked to get a rise out of people at times, especially those she didn't necessarily like. So this was the perfect opportunity to take, and it looked like the idea didn't bother Teddy at all. It made it all the more better. Her grin was growing at the idea of coffee and breakfast, all too quick to take her up on it.
"You spoil me, love." Emmett replied, head cocking to the side as she watched her before taking a step away. Quick footing brought her to the couch, flopping down on her back and careful not to spill any of the liquid from her bottle. "C'mere."

Truth be told, all the time Teddy got to spend with Emmett was amazing. Despite how they didn't look like they matched, she was the perfect kind of friend. Spoiling her was the least she could do.
She was on the couch in seconds, and Teddy didn't join her right away. She was busy refilling the glass she'd almost finished; it was better to pour a little more before she sat down on the couch as asked.
In the end, she brought the bottle with her.
Settling into the space right next to her, she finally lost her heels as she eased back in the seat. "What were you watching?"
