Emmett was glad to see that her story impressed, shoulders rising up and down with a short laugh. It was definitely something stupid to try, but the mechanic would absolutely do it again in a heartbeat. She really didn't know where to stop, a problem that translated into many factors of her life. So far, though, it's worked out in her favor, and she had a feeling it was a trait that the bright haired girl found interesting at the very least.
It hadn't surprised her to hear Deb had been in a street race. With the way she drove, there had to be a story like that. Regardless, she was impressed to hear about it. Because not too many people would risk having their license evoked for a little bit of fun. At least not on a scale like that. Her grin grew at the image of them zooming off to insure they wouldn't risk getting caught. "Did you win?" She had to ask.
But those eyes were back on her, and the question turned back to her. Emmett threw her hands up, palms facing outwards towards her. "Hey now, I told my car story first. This one is all on you."
Emmett watched with mild amusement as Alex's feelings were broken down in front of her. What was originally a person on he radar had bleeped out of the realm of possibility. The girl sounded like she wanted to avoid commitment as much as the blonde did. It was a trait they've shared for a while now. Her eyebrows quirked up as she played with the straw of her drink. "Why bother with the middle man?" Emmett prompted, humoring the whole idea. "Just get rich and not have to deal with anyone."
Though a life without companionship sounded a little too lonely, even for the mechanic's tastes.
A laugh bubbled in Emmett's chest, pouring out her lips as she pressed a hand to the bar top. "I'm not so sure about that, either." The lawyer had her curious, that alone was new. "She might be a bit too fancy for me." Rich car, rich tastes. Emmett couldn't keep up. She held up her drink, tilting it towards her friend. "Fuck 'em all."

She had been gone for some trip that had crossed over into the usual day that Emmett would stop in for lunch. The lawyer had only just been back a day before Emmett decided to reschedule. On that day. Sure, she could have considered that taking an important work trip meant there could be more for Teddy to have to handle when she came back, but in the mechanic's opinion, it only meant that there was better reason for her to take a break in the day.
She slipped into the law firm as quietly as possible, but it seemed like an impossible task given her attire. Emmett even attempted to dress a little nicer; the flannel shirt she wore might not have harbored any grease stains, but it still didn't match the business attire. At least nobody stopped her this time.
The glass walls of her office revealed Teddy inside, and the blonde gave a light knock with her knuckles before letting herself in, paper bag in tow. "Welcome back, boss."
With the reply that this place had good coffee, Emmett clutched her chest, falling back against the booth with a laugh. She easily found herself frequenting this place in the future if everything was a wonderful as the woman across from her claimed it to be. Taking her word for it, Emmett ordered a coffee, grinning at the hot chocolate with extra whipped cream Deb had requested.
That grin faltered at the flat tone and start of what felt like a hard conversation. Introductions and quick escalations weren't exactly abnormal for the mechanic, though not entirely with purpose. She rarely went out with the intention of bringing someone back home, but it often just happened. The day after? Just holding a normal conversation was a struggle. Those icebreakers as she put it. So when she caught sight of the beginnings of a grin and a playful sounding conjunction, Emmett couldn't help the light laugh she let out, in part one of relief.
Her head tilted forward, bright locks flowing around her face before she pushed it back and leaned in, elbows pressing to the table. "Craziest thing in a car, or ever?" Emmett asked, but continued before allowing for an answer. "How 'bout both? 'Cause I wanna hear what you can do outside of a car." Her lips pursed together with thought, crinkling to one side before her knuckles hit the table with a little tap. "I was off-roading with a Jeep Wrangler, right? And I flew down a mountain with it. I mean, I didn't get it going as fast as we were, but with the terrain I was lucky I didn't flip it right over. I could barely grip the wheel I was bouncing everywhere. It was open top; I woulda been fucked if I crashed." Though she didn't sound as if she regretted it. Dark eyes kept focused on the one across from her. "You're up."
That smile had Emmett a little worried about what she was walking into, but it wasn't like the mechanic to back down from anything. This, though. This was different. "Is this what you meant by dancer at night?" The blonde let out a laugh, only because she really hadn't expected it. "Damn, Alice. You have a whole 'nother level of badass in you."
She stepped in further, dark eyes scanning the room and catching sight of the various dresses and corsets around. The brunette did well to keep Emmett on her toes. Nowhere in her plans for tonight did it involve dressing up in burlesque. Really, Emmett never thought she'd find herself in a position like this in her whole life.
The question about high heels did bring a flash of concern to her features. "Never have before." But they both knew her ability allowed for impeccable balance; something Emmett wouldn't point out.
The change in her expression hadn't gone unknown to Emmett, whose eyebrows rose at the explanation of why she couldn't. It was something she failed to understand with the brunette. In her biased opinion, Alex would be considered a catch if she could gain the confidence to chase someone - or allow someone in a little closer. Her fingers tapped against the glass of her drink, quickly sucking down the rest of the contents before she waved to the bartender for another round.
"And what if he's not?" It wasn't like Emmett to have sound advice on relationships. Really, she was probably the worst to speak in the matter, given she hadn't committed to anyone in years. That was besides the point. "You gotta at least try to know, right? If you like someone... just kiss 'em." She shrugged her shoulders.
Immediately upon entering, the aroma in the air intensified. Emmett sucked in a deep breath, taking as much in of it as possible. If it tasted half as good as it smelled, then this was easily going to be the best breakfast place in town. How hadn't she heard of it before in her years living here?
Friendly faces greeted them like old friend, clearly recognizing the woman she stood behind. It drew a small laugh out of Emmett, following as they made their way into the booth. Once sitting, she rolled her shoulders back, arms stretching a little before she grabbed the menu.
A list of recommendations was offered before the mechanic could get halfway down the menu, and her tired mind appreciated the insight. She seemed like an expert, and with that, Emmett folded her menu up and placed it down. "You have me sold on these waffles." She leaned back, forearms resting against the table. "And those home fries. Tell me their coffee is good and you'll win my heart over."
With the keys in her hand, Emmmett listened carefully to the engine of the car. Her fingers curled around the wheel, offering the Beetle the full respect it deserved as she backed it out of the garage. It was a smooth ride, and the mechanic followed the directions. Though she didn't go as fast as they had the night prior, she dared to be comfortably over the speed limit most of the ride there, testing how well it took corners and accelerated. She certainly did take care of it.
When the restaurant was pointed out, Emmett grinned widely as she looked over at Deb. This girl knew how to draw a laugh out of Emmett so easily. "I could say the same for you," she replied, eyebrows quirking upwards. "You know how to get a heart rate up, that's for sure." In more than one way, it had turned out.
She pulled into a parking spot, turning the engine off and passed the keys over towards Deb once they were out of the car. The smell of maple syrup and bacon hit the air before they could get a foot in the door, and Emmett pressed a hand to her stomach as it threatened to make a noise, too. Her free one reached for the door, holding it open for the bright haired girl.
