Her car breaking down in the middle of the plaza was ultimately the last straw for Lena. She had been run by a case of the worst luck since she woke up that morning.
Furiously typing in her phone to find the nearest garage, she finally spotted one which was apparently half a mile from where she was standing. Locking her car, she stalked over where her GPS directed her and stepped into the place.
She tapped the first person she saw on the shoulder. "Excuse me, my car broke down. It's half a mile out. Could you help me?"

Surprisingly, since her shop had been vandalized and she talked to that reporter, business had been up. As crap as this city could be at times, there was a sense if support. Emmett was even considering hiring someone to help take on the new workload.
Because when someone came in, she was nose first into an engine and couldn't hear them over the sound of 90s punk playing in the background, even if it wasn't all that loud. The tap on her shoulder made her jump, quickly hauling her hands out from the car and turning. She was only startled for a moment, but quick to try and make a recovery.
An instant grin took over the mechanic, though far different than the one she usually wore in a bar as she reached for a red rag, wiping her oil covered hands. It wasn't the first time someone's come to her shop with a car broken down the road. "Hey, yeah. That's no prob." She nodded, "Any idea what's going on with it?"

She stepped back with an apology when the person jumped. When they turned with a grin, Lena reciprocated with a strained one. She wished she wasn't so pissed at herself and the day she'd had but she was so this person was probably likely to receive a small amount of pissiness from her.
When asked what the problem was, Lena tried to remember whether she could identify the problem. She had a full tank of gas, there was no smoke coming out, it just sputtered and died.
"I hate to say it but I honestly have no clue. My knowledge of cars extends only to make, model and gas pumping." She shrugged with a sheepish grin.

It wasn't uncommon to hear someone had no idea what was wrong with their car, but it was always worth asking. "No worries, I can just grab it with the truck then." She gestured towards the tow truck outside with her oil rag before shoving it into her back pocket. Her gaze shifted towards the engine she'd been working on, making note to remember exactly where she'd left off.
"C'mon," Emmett said finally with a wave of her hand, making her way outside and closing the garage door before heading towards the red tow truck. "Let's see what's going on."
Climbing in, she started the ignition.

Lena nodded as her bright blue eyes wandered through the garage. It didn't look like there was anybody else and here the mechanic was, asking her to follow into the tow truck. Did she not need someone to look after the place while she was gone?
Shrugging, the dance instructor climbed into the truck and gave the mechanic a tight smile. "Thanks. My car's right around the corner." She offered.
Usually a friendly and chatty person, the bout of bad luck she had run in had left her a little deflated so she spent the ride over to her car in relative silence, save giving directions.

The woman was relatively quiet on the short drive to her car, even though Emmett had tried to make casual conversation. She shrugged it off though, and once she saw the car pulled over on the side of the road she pulled the truck in front of it, turning off the ignition and hopping out.
Immediately she was walking towards the vehicle. "Can I see the keys?" She asked, turning her attention back to the bright haired woman.

Once they stopped, Lena climbed out of the car and fished the keys from her pocket and pressed the button on the key fob to unlock the car doors. She handed the keys over to the mechanic as she rounded over to the driver's seat to pop open the hood.
She closed the door and walked over to where the mechanic was and looked over her shoulder. "What do you think could be the problem?" Lena asked after a moment of silence. She scratched the back of her neck, wondering if she should learn something about cars. This might just be the first time she'd had any problems with her car but it might not be the last.
Knowing a thing or two might just save her some money maybe.

With the hood up and a quick glance across the engine, Emmett said nothing in terms of a diagnosis for the car yet. Instead, her hands curled around the keys, making her way to the drivers seat and climbing in. As she turned the ignition, she turned her ear towards the steering wheel. The groan of the engine with a couple of following clicks made her eyebrows raise, waiting to see if it would turn over. When it didn't, she tried again only to achieve the same results.
Within moments, she was back at the hood of the car. "When it broke down, did it seem like normal and then the RPMs just dropped out? Or did it make any noises or jerking or anything?"

Lena waited for the mechanic to give her answer but when none came, the redhead's blue eyes followed as the other woman moved to the driver's seat to start the engine twice. She moved over closer to the driver's seat and her ears perked up when she was asked a question. She grimaced when the mechanic asked her about RPMs and she recounted what she had heard.
"I think it started sputtering before it died? Like smooth sailing and then suddenly sputtering, slowing down and dead." Lena answered to the best of her abilities, complete with hand gestures for emphasis.

Unfortunately, given her quick look over and the description provided, it didn't seem good. Emmett's mouth scrunched to the side, nose crinkling as she ran back to her truck, grabbing hold of a handheld voltage meter before returning. Quick, silent work had her connected up to the battery within minutes as she turned the dial to find the appropriate reading setting. As she looked down at the results, she gave a nod. "Was hoping it was your battery for a moment there; sometimes a bad battery will overload your alternator." Though the description wasn't really necessary, given it didn't seem to be the problem in this case.
"But, I think it might be your fuel pump. That'd cause the sputtering." Something that takes a little more time and money to replace than a simple battery.

The mechanic might as well have been talking in another language given all the terms she used in a matter of seconds. At least Lena felt better knowing there was something that could be done and the person telling her that can do it.
"Does it take long to fix?" Lena asked, whipping her phone out to get ready to call someone to catch a ride with. Damien should be free around this time and Lena didn't need to add being late to her own class to the list of things that had gone wrong for her today.
Hopefully her friend would step up. He'd been doing it a lot lately, which she was completely grateful for.

That question wasn't as uncommon as it should have been in Emmett's world. Still, it managed to pull a little laugh out of the mechanic as she exhaled, shaking her head. "I'll have to tow it back to the shop. Once I finish the car I got in there, I can do a proper diagnosis, but if it's the fuel pump I'll have to order the part. Earliest it'd be in is tomorrow." It was the realistic world of dealing with mechanical troubles; nothing was instant. "Hope that's alright." Given her less than enthusiastic tone so far, Emmett seriously wondered if she had the patience to wait that long to get her car back.
She closed the hood, bending down to her knees and feeling under the bumper for the best place to put a tow hook. "If you come by later today, I can have an estimate for you."

The redhead got an answer she didn't quite hate, thankfully and she shrugged, a genuine smile finally creasing her lips. "That's the best piece of news I've gotten today." She chuckled lightly, slipping her hands into her jeans pocket. "How sad is it that having my car towed is good news?" Lena snorted.
She sent a quick text to Damien to pick her up at the garage before looking back up at the mechanic and nodded. "That's great. Do you mind if I follow you back to the garage? I've got a friend who'll pick me up there." She smiled expectantly before reaching a hand out. "Lena, by the way."

Emmett's eyebrows rose when she was told that this was the best news she'd gotten that day. That was a first, but she'd take it. "Sounds like you've had some shit luck." By no means was Emmett great at comforting strangers, and she was already walking over to the tow truck and setting it up to hook up the vehicle. It only took a couple of minutes, and she had it ready to go.
"Yeah that's not a problem." Emmett shrugged as she looked at the hand offered. "Emmett." The corner of her mouth rose up into a grin as she took the hand offered, giving a firm shake before making her way back to the truck. "Hop in."

Lena snorted when the mechanic pointed out an understatement. Granted, obviously she didn't know what had gone on in Lena's day but having it stated that way made her a little itchy and impatient to get the car fixed so she could be rid of this negative energy that seemed to be sticking to her for the past five hours.
"It's been a long ass day, that's for sure." The Aussie sighed and gave the blonde a crooked half smile. She watched as her car was hooked up to the tow truck and sighed. She patted the hood of the car. "You'll be alright, baby." She mumbled to herself.
Accepting the handshake, she thanked the blonde once more before going around to the passenger side and climbed in. Her mood considerably lifted and the atmosphere in the tow truck was less gloomy than before.
"So how long have you been a mechanic here?" She asked, more open to idle chat now that she'd eased up.
