Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
The smile morphed into a grin before she looked back at her canvas. Her fingers were still against it, but unmoving. The trails she'd been pretty carelessly making led right to her fingertips. Busy? "That's a polite way of putting 'wasting time while eating snacks.' But I'll take it."
Speaking of- her free hand reached out to grab something. What ended up between her fingers was a Twix bar. One she offered to the girl now settling in near her. "Want one? I probably shouldn't eat all of these by myself..." But that didn't mean she wouldn't. Knowing was different from doing.
Either way- accepted or not -she would get back to "painting." Only now she started adding in a few more colors. A new element had been added, after all. Although it still looked like some abstract mess. After continuing for a little while longer, Deb figured she ought to say something. She was curious. "So what does bring you out here? Just looking for something pretty to draw from?"
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
Once the phone was back in hand, Deb checked it. Then immediately laugh. The reference was, fortunately, not lost on her. Her gaze turned back to Chandler, and she was given a deliberate once-over. A thoughtful look came to Deb's face while she glanced between the girl and the phone. "Cuter, huh? Hmm I dunno..." It trailed off in a tone of fake debate. The expression only held for a moment before Deb was grinning again, teasing.
"Dorms were fun, but getting an apartment is definitely better. There's plenty of places to find some space if you know where to search." It had taken her some time, but she'd found her own apartment by herself. "The power definitely does come in handy too." She added on, smirking. She never had to worry if something's color scheme would match hers. Now she could make it so.
Since they were in agreement Deb kept walking. Though the next question passed her way made her hum with actual thought. "I'm a hair stylist, pretty much. Do the full trims, touch-ups, complete makeovers, and whatever you can think of to make someone look good. My specialty is what you'd expect." A smile was flashed the other girl's way before she looked forward again. "Cutting of course." She said without a hitch to her tone. But the quirk of her smile was enough on its own to give it away.
"Most people come to me for dyeing though. Like I said, the power makes it pretty easy. Plus non-damaging to the hair, which makes it extra appealing to anyone wanting to try a different shade or color altogether. The owner of the salon I work at has been really nice to me with hours since I'm still in school. I think it's because she'd really like to keep me, frankly. Though I do love it there so I'm honestly considering just working full time once I've graduated." With that she shrugged. The idea had always been hanging around in her head and considered numerous times before. But graduation was still a decent while away. She wasn't going to have to decide her entire life just yet.
Now slate eyes turned back to her."If you had your choice, what would you do after school was all over?"

With the beautiful landscape around, a picture of nature would be the first thing most artists should think to draw.
The painting before her looked nothing like it.
The only similarities between the canvas and the scenery were in the colors. The rest was a swirling, abstract mess of merging lines and diverging paths. It all appeared to blend together in some secretive flow the only the painter was aware of. If the artist was even aware of one.
Deb seemed quite content to swirl the colors on her canvas with little to no care. Not a dab of paint or even a brush was in sight. Instead, her fingers drew paths across the once-white map. Behind them came trails of different pigments and tones. She'd gotten some inspiration from the lovely scene before her. How the golden tint of the sun managed to break through the surrounding green to light up spots on the ground. Honestly, it would have made for a pretty photograph.
But the inspiration had ended past the palette. Now the image had been reduced to an abstract thought- used as practice for her power rather than any sort of academic significance. This would be a great time for her to work on art that actually needed to be done, but the wild haired girl pushed that off. She was more than content literally finger-painting and eating the small bundle of snacks she'd managed to snag before she got out there.
Although the noise of an approach managed to still her fingers for a few moments. Blue-grey eyes turned with her head as she assessed just who- or what -was coming her way. When she did see who it was, an open smile crept onto her features. "Is that another native artist? Coming out to your natural habitat?"

Warm weight settled on either side of her hips as the decision to close the distance between them was made for her. An action that made a short chuckle of amusement leave her. But that sound was soon silenced when lips met hers in a very insistent manner.
Her hands were already moving, one sliding up into blonde locks to keep her in place while the other pressed against her back. Damn if it didn't feel good to finally have the full length of the mechanic against her. No middle console getting in the way of the sensation now. Only the thin barrier of fabric, though even that could only block so much. For now, Deb was quite content to deepen what they had going with invitation to explore.
But her lungs could only be denied so much. "Maybe you were a tease." The power to speak only came between the necessary breaths she needed. The smile on her face was just as pleased as it had been the first time. Though it soon disappeared as she sought out Emmett's lips once again, eager as ever to continue. It simply felt to good not to.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
Her face scrunched up at that. "Ah, you got me there." Deb liked the Fiat, don't get her wrong. But her Bug was her Bug.
Besides, there were more important things to consider.
Like whether or not she was going to act on her thoughts. There were quite a few after all. They only seemed to grow in number at Emmett's response. A familiar feeling was starting to return to her. It widened her smirk and made her finally slip out of the car, turning the engine off. "Well," She dragged the word out until she got close to the other with slow, deliberate steps. "They're all very tempting. And I think I already warned you about that." The smirk had morphed into a half grin. "But they all go back to whether or not you'd like to continue where we left off?" Her own answer was probably pretty clear already. But she needed to know she was still considering too.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
That had earned another laugh and a grin along with it. "Oh you can certainly try." Had been the response. Though it would mean she'd lose if she really had tried.
But as it were, Deb was impressed. As if she weren't already, the belt-less stunt only made her all the more appreciative. And perhaps a little more wild with her turns. A challenge was a challenge. She'd give as good as she got. In the end, she actually felt proud that she had managed to survive. Wasn't for Deb's lack of trying either.
As Emmett got out of the car, a pensive look came to her face. Her fingers drummed against the wheel in thought. "Thinking maybe I should just drive off into the sunset with this beauty." She mused allowed, voice infused with fake consideration. The glance sent Emmett's way was clue enough that it was a joke. Pure mischief shined there, soon forcing the corners of her mouth upwards. Deb shook her head and instead rested her chin atop her hands on the wheel. She hadn't gotten out of the vehicle just yet, but her belt was unbuckled by now.
Blue-grey eyes gave Emmett a once-over through the windshield before a smirk fell into place. Oh, I'm probably thinking of a few things I shouldn't be- as usual." She actually replied with a casual shrug.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
At least her idea wasn't getting a pout. When the grin appeared, Deb let out a breath she wasn't aware she'd been holding. It soon morphed into a short laugh at Emmett's response. This girl really did like going fast. It was a wonderful change to find. Meant Deb didn't have to hold anything back.
"Don't have to tell me twice." With that she shifted back into place and put the belt back on. However, an idea had popped into her head as she started up the car. Another smirk was sent the blonde's way. "But I dare you to try not holding on to anything on the way back." The challenge issued, she grabbed the clutch once more and took off without any further warning.
Now that there was an actual motive behind the drive, the speed had more meaning. They weren't just going on a joy ride- this was trying to get the express pass back home. Didn't mean she didn't enjoy every second of the return drive. They took to the roads with the same velocity as they had before. Every gust of wind that whipped her hair behind her brought a smile along with it. Even when they returned to the more populated roads she pushed it. Carefully though- didn't want to get caught now of all times.
Eventually the garage came into view. It felt like hours ago since she'd seen it. How long had they even been out? Yet one glance to her companion and- well did it really matter? She had fun. The kind she usually only had with very select people. No wonder her face hurt from smiling.
Deb stopped the car right outside the bay doors. A hand ran through her hair once again to fix it, but she turned her eyes towards the passenger side. "See? Wasn't so bad, was it?" She teased, laughter following the words close behind.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
Looks like neither girl wanted to pull away. She really didn't. In fact she was very content doing exactly what they had been doing. But the fact of the matter was that There were a few things obstructing just what Deb really wanted. Though she didn't want to stop, the scenery was working somewhat against her.
Unless she really wanted to see how well she could cram into that tiny space.
Her mind worked as well as it could through its current haze. Eventually it settled on something. With gentle pressure she pulled the girl close for another kiss- brief this time. "Much as I hate the idea of pausing for a little," She admitted with hushed tones, "I can't even lie to myself about being able to fit in that space." Not comfortably at least. However, even with the admittance, a slow smirk grew on her face as she looked her in the eyes again. "But I know I work better with more space. And I know we can drive fast if we want to." There was a sort of promise held somewhere in those words, along with a hint of a challenge.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
A desire sparked there that only grew when she felt fingers tangle into her hair. Her own hand, which hadn't left the shoulder it found purchase on, slipped upwards towards the back of her head. Emmett wasn't the only one wanting to keep things close for a while.
The second kiss went on until breathing became a slow burning need within her lung. Yet the break between didn't last too long until she was pulled back into a third. This one just as sweet as the previous two. Only now she could feel a fire building up in her. A smoldering sensation she was fairly well acquainted with. It made the presence of the middle console all the more present and all the more annoying. But that was what grounded her as the desire built.
Deb pulled back this time. Breath coming fast as she met the dark gaze. Her own eyes probably gave away just what she was feeling. Just what, or who, she wanted. It took her a moment to gather herself to speak. "We should probably head back..." It was acknowledged with a distinctly rough breath. There at the garage she could at least gather her thoughts before she went jumping the middle console like a hurdle.
Though she was making no moves to shift out of her current position just yet.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
That was a very nice look on the mechanics's face. It was doing wonders to twist a warm knot low in her system. And the glance towards parted lips did not go unnoticed. It only made her wet them with an anticipatory smile.
Restraint wasn't really her thing. Not when there was something she wanted right before her eyes. Something she was fairly confident was just as open to the ideas playing around in her head. It made her heart pound with the familiar heightened rate it had been at since they started. "Oh?" She toyed with the word, grinning toothily. "I'm gonna take that as high praise from someone who was so easily pulling off a drift not too long ago." Color her likewise impressed. There were only a handful of people Deb could think of willing and able to pull off a stunt like that.
Even less that would sit shotgun while she shredded the speed limit into fine dust.
The knowledge was edging her to close that distance again. Combined with how it had just felt, she was horrifically tempted. Painfully so. Maybe it was the thrill still steadily coursing through her body. Or maybe it was the fact she really was weak in the face of pretty temptation. Either way, her eyes likewise flashed down before she pressed forward this time, testing to see if she could dare to get away with another kiss.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
It certainly deserved the title after the rough love they'd just given the vehicle. Despite the fact it wasn't hers, she gave the side of the car a fond pat. She could appreciate its speed and fantastic handling for what it was worth.
Once again she found herself laughing. A sound that was becoming so common that day. And to think it had started off on such a sour note only to turn into this. To be honest, Deb had completely forgotten the terrible feeling she had when she'd seen the damage to her own sweetheart. It felt like something so very far away now. All thanks to a very intriguing stranger. "What can I say? I like to impress. When people are crazy enough to let me try, anyways." It came with its own lopsided smile and teasing tone.
She was just starting to unbuckle her own seatbelt when she heard the resounding click of the passenger's side's buckle. The noise turned her head just in time to meet the other woman's approach. Before she knew it a soft weight caught her lips and held them there. For a moment, surprise held her frozen in place. It hadn't been a move she was expecting. At least, not so soon. But she'd be lying if she said she hadn't wondered what those lips would feel like from the moment she'd walked into the garage. "Good" was apparently the answer.
Once that second of frost passed, she moved closer, inviting the kiss to deepen with a hand grasping a strong shoulder. The angle was a little odd initially, but this wasn't the first time. After a while- depending on if the other hadn't pulled away first -Deb would pull back to breath. Blue-grey eyes reopened with a pleased dark light to them. Her whole expression had warmed up once again, just like it had when they'd been having fun with the car. "Not so bad yourself there." She breathed in response, grinning again.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
The laughter only renewed itself once she heard her numbers. One twenty-five. She'd done it. The look on Deb's face was nothing short of victorious. "I try." She responded with a cheeky wink and grin before looking back to the road
The rest of the drive was filled with twists and turns that made up the remainder of the road. These Deb took to with gusto, seeing how fast she could dare to take them. Not nearly as fast as their downhill stunt, but still enough to whip them around quite soundly. The Fiat, to Deb's delight, was wonderful. Although that shouldn't have shocked her. Its owner clearly cared for it as much as Deb did her Beetle. The dedication showed.
Eventually she eased off the road and onto a dirt path she was familiar with. It led up towards a camping ground she often went to. Usually after she was done joy riding the road they'd just been on. Though this time she stopped by its base rather than going all the way up. "This handles like a dream." She finally said, moving the hair out of her face with a chuckle. Then her gaze turned towards Emmett again. The smirk wouldn't stay off her face. Not that she'd try to hide it. "You sure know how to show a girl a good time." Albeit one that they definitely would've gotten tickets for if they'd been caught.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
The dare echoed clearly in Emmett's voice. One-twenty. A number most hardly dared to near. But as Deb rounded the bend to her road of choice, that number presently a tasty challenge.
Blue-grey eyes made a quick assessment of the road before them. Through sheer blessed opportunity it was clear. The long backroad shot straight and true down a hill with a gentle incline. It was a favorite of hers. Particularly whenever her sister happened to be in town. "Oh, I think we can test that." Deb finally responded before gunning it down the hill. The wind was howling through her ears and buffeting her hair like a rollercoaster would as the number on the dial went up and up. The sheer force of the speed was trying to push her back in the seat. An answering howl of glee managed its way out of Deb's throat as they practically soared down the road. Hopefully Emmett ready did love going fast- because her bright haired driver was coming close to numbers that shouldn't be seen off a race track.
It was only as they started getting close to the road's curving end that Deb eased off the gas. Even then just barely. The car whipped around the corner and had to veer into the opposite lane just to make it. But once it straightened out and they were off again, Deb was just bursting with laughter. "How fast?" She breathed, changing a glance over at Emmett as their course- still pretty fast - got a little calmer. At least the scenery wasn't a complete blur this time. She'd been too occupied with the adrenaline-filled sensation to really take note, despite what she said earlier.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
Her face was starting to actually hurt from all her smiling and grinning. But she couldn't help it. That response was simply too enticing. Wait? She hardly could. That was the thrill of it.
She slipped out of the passenger side door and swapped seats. As they passed she dared to playfully nudge the other with her elbow. The smirk she wore was lopsided, but confident. "Well, I've always liked trying new things. So guess we'll see." Because this was something new and exciting, and Deb found she was loving every second of it.
Once she was in the driver's side and buckled up, she took a few moments to situate herself. It was like learning her Beetle's limits all over again. A prospect that made her grin with a devilish sort of delight. Already some roads were coming to mind. Places where the law's watchful eye was not quite so sharp, and the traffic hardly existed.
"Buckle up, babe. Time for a trip." She laughed before grabbing the clutch and taking off. Now that she was in control, the rush felt all the more intense. Especially since she had to relearn how this new little beauty worked. Though she had plenty of time to feel out the kinks and bumps before they got to where Deb wanted to go. By then her expression had filled with a wild type of determination. She chanced a glance over at Emmett, toothy grin in place. There was one simple question she wanted to ask.
Have I gone mad? I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: The best people usually are.
Her body jerked just like the other woman's as their speed finally hit zero. She had to quickly grab the top of the vehicle to prevent hurting herself, but the laugh was still lingering. Even though her face was obscured by the messy strands of bright colored hair. She was in the middle of fixing it when the offer pressed her pause.
Wanna go at it?
Her eyes snapped back to attention. Judging from that grin she totally meant it. Oh. A disbelieving huff left her before it trickled into more laughter. "You," She stated with a sort of breathless intensity that had her eyes shining all over again, "Are proving to be probably the best thing that's happened to me all week." But if she was genuinely giving her the reins, there was no way that opportunity was getting passed up.
"Lets see how I compare then, huh?" Deb joked, already undoing her seatbelt to switch seats. Time to match up with the car expert.
