Alice stepped aside to allow the blonde more room. Brow eyes darting between the two girls. She figured it was better that way. Emmett seemed to handle the situation better than Alice would, because the brunette couldn't for the life of her take the girl seriously. She figured.
Then she changed her mind. Eyebrows shot up at the explanation the blonde offered. Alice tilted her head and did a little nod; After all, she couldn't argue the possibility of that happening. Not that she really wanted to anyway. She almost pitied the girl. Almost.
"Besides," Alice threw in. "You could do way better." It wasn't a lie. If a relationship was what the girl wanted, then she really could do better. Commitment hadn't ever been something Alice sought out. It was never something she promised.
Admittedly she assumed the possibility of her words, even if she didn't truly know. But as they came out of her mouth, she sounded confident, and although Emmett didn't catch the way Alice nodded, the look on the girl's face was enough to know she made her point. She still looked angry, but at least she didn't look like she could implode at any given moment. The mechanic lifted her hand, pressing her palm to the side of her face with a light pat. A goodbye. "She has a point. You really don't want to date either of us."
Taking steps backwards, she returned to her friend's side, slinging and arm around her waist. "We really suck at it." It was enough for the girl to just nod quietly, and within moments she was turning away all together. Thank god.
Emmett let out a loud sigh, looking back at Alice. "I need a fucking drink."
Leaning into the touch, Alice let out an audible sigh. She didn't often find herself in these situations and while they were all different, it wasn't something she ever enjoyed - and not because it made her feel bad. It was just annoying, really.
Emmett didn't have to tell her twice. "Make that two."
Making a beeline towards the bar, Alice could feel the tension drop off her like water sliding off plastic. She was never one to carry a grudge, nor let things stick for too long. She supposed she was lucky that way. "Give me whatever you're good at making that also happens to be strong," she told the bartender. She turned her head then, brown eyes searching for the blonde's.
It was a universal agreement. More alcohol. Thank god for that. Emmett was close behind Alice as they made their way back to the bar, putting a palm against the counter as the other pushed back long blonde locks. "Two of those." Emmett announced, agreeing with the brunette. It was always awkward dealing with those she had met in the past, an exception being the woman standing beside her.
What was meant to be a glance in Alice's direction became more, because she caught the brunette's eyes. It put a smile to her lips as she then let out a loud laugh. "We might have to cross reference some sort of list." That was, if either of them cared enough to have a list.
When the drinks were set in front of them, Emmett lifted her glass towards Alice before taking a large swig.
It would have been a good thing then if Alice could actually remember all the names that would have ended up on the list. "I would if I could," she offered sheepishly. She was in no way embarrassed about her life, but even she could see how much of a douche move not remembering names could be seen as. Not that she honestly thought Emmett would ever judge her.
Returning the gesture, the grin returned to the brunette's features. "Cheers." Lifting the glass to her lips, she took a swig. Her eyes closed as she felt the burn down her throat. Just what she needed.
Rotating the glass in her hand, Alice pursed her lips in amusement. "I don't even remember her name."
The familiar burning sensation of a strong drink was welcoming, and within seconds she already took another sip. The momentary stress of that girl was already escaping her, and she couldn't be happier. Better, was that she had the best company possible. Because although Emmett laughed, it wasn't pointed at the brunette. Rather, she found the whole situation amusing.
"Honestly, same." Emmett admitted, having tried to recall the girl's name when she had approached them and failed.
She hummed against the glass for a moment, eyes drawn to her companion for the evening. "Wanna get out of here?"
Taking another swig from the glass, Alice put it down against the bar. The sound dulled by the thunder of the voices and music around them. The blonde didn't have to ask her twice.
Rolling her shoulders, the brunette pushed away from the bar. She tossed another, quick, glance towards the dance floor. It was a shame, but it couldn't be helped. Turning her attention back, she smiled. "You owe me a dance, though." She'd make sure to hold her to that.
Pulling her card up from the back of her phone, she placed it on the bar. The bartender was and the score was quickly settled. "Let's go, yeah?"
Emmett nodded towards the bartender as he rang up her tab that ended up being smaller than she had originally planned when she opened it. No harm, though. With a quick scribble, she pushed the receipt away from herself before standing up, shoulders rolling backwards as she gave her counterpart a grin. "Any time you want, babe," she laughed as they made their way towards the door.
When outside, Emmett sucked in a sharp breath of the cool winter air and looked up to the sky, stars dimmed by the surrounding city lights, but she could still make out a few of them.
Her gaze eventually fell back to Alice, eyebrows raising with curiosity. "Watcha wanna do?"
Alice had never liked the cold; She'd always preferred the sun and the heat over the cold and the snow, but even she had to admit that the snow had its charm. The way the snow lay heavily on the branches and glittered in the light... Well, it looked almost magical.
Skipping a few steps down the path, the telekinetic whirled around, arms stretched high. "Everything!" She smiled at that, almost childishly: She could feel the spurs of youth and energy mix together within her veins. She really wanted to do everything.
Lowering her hands, she grew a tad more somber, though the smile remained. "Let's have a snowball fight."
The cold didn't really bother Emmett - she had grown used to being in the constant state of overcast the Oregon coast was since she was a child. Winters weren't horrible, but they still had snow, and every year, the mechanic still got excited about it. She buttoned up her jacket as they got outside, grinning at the way Alice spun in the winter weather. It was like they were teenagers again.
A laugh escaped her throat at the answer provided, but Emmett offered no argument to the idea of attempting to do everything. The snow crunched beneath her shoes as she followed Alice away from the bar for a few steps.
But then the suggestion of a snowball fight immediately put the mechanic into action. She had quick reflexes and agility on her side thanks to her ability, and it was only a matter of seconds before she had a perfectly formed snowball in the palm of her hand. In the next moment, it was flying through the air in Alice's direction.
The snowball hit her before she even had the time to react. She had expected a response, something, anything that would indicate the girl was playing along, but there was none. "Hey!" She called out, a grin splayed over her lips. "That's how you wanna play it?"
Ducking behind cover, Alice knelt down and started creating balls of snow; She had a secret weapon too. Lining up six balls, she picked up two with her hands and the other four with her telekinetic power. Her head popped up, looking for wherever Emmett had decided to locate herself.
A direct hit. Yes! Emmett grinned widely at the impact of snow against Alice's form, a fist flying into the air in excitement. "Bring it!" She yelled out, daring her for a challenge. She was completely unaware of any possible repercussions, thanks to her competitive nature and blooming ego.
Using the time offered to her, Emmett tried her best to find cover behind a tree, but there wasn't much room. Still, she scooped as many snowballs together as she could in the moment, only managing about three before a warning rang in her ears. The mechanic laughed loudly, sticking her head out from behind cover to taunt her opponent. Only then did she realize the mistake of her actions.
All six snowballs pelted her, drawing another laugh out of the mechanic. She was covered in snow, but it was still so much fun. Taking hold of her two snowballs, Emmett brought herself to her feet and started running for Alice, tossing them towards her, but had another plan now. She charged at the telekinetic, fully intent on throwing her into the snow, even if she brought Emmett down with her. It was just a matter of if her timing was right.
It was in such moments that Alice thanked her ability. It had been a pain in the ass, but at the very least, it gave her an upper hand in most things. Of course, she hadn't counted in the fact that some people had the ability to react far beyond her own ability. She might have been able to toss more snowballs, but she couldn't even begin to keep up with the blonde.
Unless she managed to keep her distance, of course. That was the only way she'd ever be able to win.
Naturally, the blonde had other plans. Alice should have expected it, but the fact remained; She didn't. Even as her own snowballs had hit, she'd felt herself grow cocky and confident, almost tasting the victory at the back of her tongue. The snowballs flying in her direction offered the blonde the distraction she'd needed and before Alice could react, she found herself on the ground, snow everywhere.
A soft 'oof' escaped the brunette's lips and she opened her eyes, mouth quirking in a smile. "You're such a tramp!"
Although her ability gave her extreme reflexes, Emmett knew she stood no chance against someone with telekinesis. She could try to dodge, but a snowball could easily follow her path. Charging forward was her best option. Her arms wrapped around the brunettes waist, hauling her into a pile of snow and having no shame about landing right on top of her. Emmett was already covered as it was, a little extra wouldn't hurt if it meant guaranteed victory.
A loud laugh burst from the mechanic at the name she was referred to, being completely unscathed it. She was too busy relishing her win. She had a leg on either side of Alice's hips, and she didn't care if either of them got soaked from the snow. She wasn't moving yet.
"Don't pick a fight you can't win, Campbell." Emmett laughed.
Alice had always considered herself a very stubborn and prideful being, but even she couldn't help but be smitten by the burst of laughter. She even ignored the biting cold that started seeping through her clothes; Neither of them had been dressed for a snowball fight, but those were thoughts the telekinetic could worry about later.
"Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, Em." She fired back. Telekinetic tendrils moved, brushing against the blonde's figure. A frown formed between the brunette's eyes as she focused. She could have chosen the easy path and simply pushed the blonde off, but what was the fun in that?
Snow lifted and one of the telekinetic tendrils reached for the hem of the shirt the blonde was wearing.
