It was a relief to hear those words coming from Teddy. Olivia was not usually the type to hinge her self-worth on people so it was weird for her to be so dependent on Teddy's opinion of her. This was all brand new territory for her and she wasn't entirely certain whether she liked it or not.
When Teddy called her act of familial obligation selfless and generous, Olivia frowned just slightly. Teddy was accurate in her thinking. Olivia honestly didn't see it that way. She just wanted to make sure Kenny was taken care of in her parents' absence. Kenny's mom and dad had roots when Olivia didn't. It was an easy decision.
She smiled anyway, even though she didn't agree with Teddy's assessment. "But you're here to make a difference on a much larger scale though, Teddy. I mean, from what you've told me, you intend to help hundreds of other people. I just care about my niece." She shrugged, suddenly feeling the uncomfortable weight of someone's high opinion of her. But it did honestly feel good that a person of Olivia's caliber thought so highly of her. "Thank you, though. That's really nice of you to say."

The interaction between them felt oddly familiar. It was the kind of thing Teddy tried not to get herself caught in. It went from complimenting one, to their denial, to flipping it back on the other. She looked at a set of eyes she was almost positive didn't believe her, trying her best not to look like she was obviously scrutinising her.
"Don't thank me for saying something nice." She corrected lightly. In her eyes, it was like completely missing the point. It was polite. "I didn't mean to make that sound serious. You mightn't know much about me, but you should definitely know I won't compliment you just to make you feel better." It was, at the very least, a handy fact to know about her. And a subtle way to indicate there was a greater depth to how she spoke.
And then she started again; "Ask me anything."

Teddy's reassurance further cemented the fact that yes, Olivia definitely had a stupid crush on her boss. The woman knew exactly what she wanted and she was more than willing to let people know it. It was scary but it was good. And Olivia was definitely caught up in it. She could have slapped herself then and there.
When the opportunity to ask more of her dinner companion, Olivia decided to lighten the mood. "How's the steak?" She gave a teasing grin.

Completely open questions were always a small judge of character. Teddy rarely offered such a thing to someone she worked with; most people in her position only ever used the opportunity to grill her about everything to do with her working life. Advice, Best cases. That sort of thing.
The absolute difference seemed to throw her off guard the moment the words left her mouth. It was so simple, it was clever. She offered an amused smile for the teasing tone she'd given.
"Perfect." She replied in time. She could have gone on to be thankful for the recommendation, but she didn't.

A warm smile spread across Olivia's face at Teddy's reply, ducking her head slightly as she continued to finish her food. They spent the rest of their meal in companionable silence.
Olivia tried to be subtle with her stolen glances but she had a feeling Teddy caught on to it once or twice but it didn't actually stop her from doing it anyway.
When the bill came, Teddy insisted on paying for dinner and Olivia, for once, let someone else pay for her dinner. They parted ways and Olivia couldn't stop smiling the rest of the night.
