As nothing was said - for which Teddy was grateful - she considered how infrequently her thoughts trailed back to such a falling out. It was rare for her not to win, or not to get what she wanted, and when it happened there was never anyone who questioned her about her behaviour.
She didn't look away, even as Olivia likely did again. She couldn't help the way she looked grateful for the question given to her. It was better than asking her what happened. It reminded her of the boundary set in place that she'd very nearly forgotten about. "The point is, I've given up a lot to be this good. I don't like the times where it doesn't seem worth it." She replied instead, nodding her head once to the thought. Everything had to come back to a method or a motive.
"The other point," Teddy continued on, slowly, "Is that I think every person I dedicate my time to is worth it." It wasn't as if they often had someone else putting in any effort for them. She couldn't imagine it being so wrong to give so much to people who deserved to win.

Olivia quietly smiled at Teddy's response, finding it so uniquely her. But it still didn't feel like Teddy was answering her initial question. Or maybe it was because Olivia hadn't actually asked the right one.
She also didn't think drilling Teddy was the right thing to do. The fact that the woman actually came out of her room to talk was already good enough without Olivia upsetting her even more, so she took the easier route.
"I honestly don't want to be even more of a nag but I ordered a sandwich for you. Just have a bite before you go to sleep? You barely touched lunch." She reached out and patted the arm of the couch Teddy was sitting on and gave her a small smile. "We'll get to an agreement soon. Setbacks are normal but you can't beat yourself up for it, eh?"

For Teddy, there was comfort in the way the conversation seemed to dwindle. She laughed when Olivia continued to speak, feeling that little hit of her usual self creep its way back to the surface. "I won't fight you. There's literally nothing else I can do until tomorrow anyway." For once, she favoured the idea of thinking clearly while the opportunity presented itself.
"I'll do my best to take that advice on board." She replied honestly. Sure, Olivia wouldn't be the first to tell her it wasn't worth beating herself up over it, but she might have been the first in a position to understand the importance of why it was so important.
She moved to lean forward in her seat. Having eyed the way a stray hand touched the fabric over herself, she eased her own arm over the space. "I'm sorry, by the way. About dinner. It was rude of me to ignore you." She felt no better time than the present to at least try to atone for her misbehaviour. "You were being nice, and you didn't deserve that. I'm not used to having a second person with me at these sorts of things. I'm used to locking myself in rooms like that and honestly, I forget that there's someone here to talk to." The thought caught her the second the words passed her lips, and she spiked up again.
"Not to say you're forgettable. You're not. Really."

It felt like a big accomplishment that Teddy seemed to want to take her advice into consideration. She did feel like they were friends as well as colleagues and just because this was a work trip, didn't mean they couldn't improve on their personal relationship. She certainly had those with her previous employers so she didn't see why she couldn't with Teddy.
Well, she did see why but she was actively ignoring it.
Or trying to; it didn't help that Teddy was touching her right then and saying things that are a little too intimate. Although in her state, Olivia was pretty sure she was looking too much into it.
"It's fine." She answered, her tone betraying the calm she was trying to portray. "I'll have to try to tone down being a mom. With my boss of all people." Olivia laughed, a little too much.
She gently extracted her hand from under Teddy's and began to stand up, thinking the conversation was over.

The break between her tone and her face wasn't lost on Teddy. The disconnect shot out to her eyes like it was clear as day, and they narrowed a touch on hers. To Teddy, it seemed like the most opportune time to apologise for her blatant rude behaviour, and the response she got was worth considering.
She glanced down at the hand that slipped from her own, and she immediately joined her two together instead. She watched the way she stood, not quite willing to do the same just yet. She'd worked to get her out of that room, and it didn't seem right to disappear behind the closed door again.
"Are you alright?" Teddy asked her then, leaving the question completely open to however she wanted to answer it.

Teddy's question halted Olivia's hasty attempt at an escape. Boy, was she not alright. That question was a loaded gun. How was she supposed to tell her boss that she had feelings for her that went beyond the professional respect she should have? And how was she supposed to explain that she didn't quite understand these feelings and that their proximity is so not helping?
On top of that, Olivia was still struggling with the fact that she had only been chosen to be on this trip and to be Teddy's assistant on an inane technicality.
How was she supposed to answer all that when she couldn't properly escape afterwards? Hiding in her room while the object of her affections was just across the hall from her was stupid.
"Fine." Olivia responded with an all too wide smile before she turned to go back to her room.
