Gwin sat with her bare feet dangling from the edge of the pier into the freezing water. Her dark jeans were rolled up to her knees. She watched the surface ripple as she swirled her ankle. She seemed to be in a good mood (something which was rare for her). In one hand was a bottle of beer - and other empty bottles in a line beside her - and in her other hand a cigarette. Loud music blasted from her phone, and Gwin sang along without restraint. It seemed to be Queen who was playing out loud today.Â
"Adventure seeker on an empty street, Just an alley creeper, light on his feet A young fighter screaming, with no time for doubt With the pain and anger can't see a way out, It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say, Gotta find me a future move out of my way, I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now, I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now"
She paused, taking a swig of her beer and a puff of her cigarette, closing her eyes for a moment to soak in the coolness of the breeze and the thrill of Freddie Mercury's voice. It was a little known fact that Gwin was an avid Queen fan. She resumed her singing, proud and free; if only for as long as she was alone and out here.
Her toes had turned a rather pale sahde of alabaster, but Gwin was to absorbed within her own mind. After all, alcohol and music made you invincible.

As the music teacher, Gina was always on the look out for musically talented students at Bellefonte or even in town. Her mornings were carefully planned to work one on one sessions or in small groups with students that showed promise and wanted to get better or those that probably didn't have a chance in the world of becoming a star but wanted to improve nonetheless. Gina wasn't one to turn away a willing learner. To non-students she offered private lessons at a fair rate. Currently she was enjoying a planning period, walking around the grounds even if it was a little chilly. It was Gwin's voice that caught her attention, carrying on the light wind to her enchanced ears and faint, pink soundwaves catching her eyes.
Gina followed them, curious now. Besides, she had an affinity for classic rock. Who could not appreciate the musical talents of the late, great, Freddie Mercury? Only someone without any taste - that's who. She came to a stop a few feet away from Gwin, staying quiet for now and letting her be. The young woman would probably notice her soon anyway. Seeing Gwin also reminded her of the short letter her mother had written. It was sad that Gina could see her own parents writing something similar - if not a little more refined. It was for the best that Gwin hadn't read the note. Gina wasn't so sure if she wanted to tell Gwin about its contents either.

SOME OF THEM WANT TO USE YOU Gwin had paused her singing to do her own rendition of the guitar solo, mimicking the heroic chords of Brian May, strumming an invisible instrument with all the gusto she could manage. She seemed so free and almost happy and relaxed, until she saw Gina's reflection in the still water.
"Shit!" She exclaimed, dropping her beer bottle, which rolled along the wooden slates before coming to rest upon the edge. Gwin promptly grasped it again, flicking away her cigarette. "How long have you been fucking standing there?" She hissed, feeling like her alone time had been invaded. There was a leap up of fire within her eyes which hadn't been there seconds before, but that seemed to at home within her irises.

Gina put her hands up when Gwin spotted her and freaked out. Well, freaked out wasn't the proper word, but it was all she could think of at the moment. "Only a minute or two. I heard your singing and followed it. I didn't realize it was you until I saw you." She lowered her hands again. Gwin had probably been singing loud enough for people in the immediate vicinity to hear but not much louder and it would have been obvious if Gina had been close. There were no hiding spaces here. So the rumors about her hearing must be true, right?
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop. You have a nice voice though." Gina offered as she studied the young woman. "and an excellent taste in music. Freddy Mercury is hard to beat."

SOME OF THEM WANT TO USE YOU Gwin suddenly felt just a little bad. Gina, after all, was someone she didnt hate. She didnt quite like her yet, but she didnt dislike her. She took a step back, fingers running through her tousled hair, taking in a sharp breath of smoke before flicking away her cigarette. "Sorry..." She said in a whisper, slumping down on the pier again and leaning back on her hands.
She shook her head slightly at Gina's comment. "Don't tell anyone." There was something almost vulnerable in her voice for just a moment, before she pulled another bottle of beer towards her and placed it to her lips.
