Asher Grey Hawthorne FACE CLAIM: Jon Whitesell
♦ THE BASICS ♦ AGE: 17 GENDER: Male ORIENTATION: Heterosexual POSITION: Student
♦ THE ABILITY ♦ POWER: Telepathy Asher's ability of telepathy is wildly unpredictable and hard for him to control. The ability is almost never 'turned off' allowing the thoughts of those around him to stream constantly through his own mind, interrupting his thoughts. It becomes difficult for him to differentiate between his opinions and those of the people around him, overwhelming and confusing. Asher has the ability to listen in on the thoughts of people within ten feet of himself and view their recent memories. Asher can even speak with people using his telepathy, but finds it hard to maintain the connection used for such communication. He, however, cannot influence their behavior in any way. His ability merely serves as a messenger of the minds.
LIMITATIONS: Asher's telepathy, while powerful, does have some severe limitations. He can only sustain willful control of the ability for 15 minutes while a communication link between minds is even harder to sustain, ranging from about 2-5 minutes. While willful control of his power allows him to riffle through the memory's and thoughts of a nearby person, Asher's power is constantly going whether he is controlling it or not. Constant torrents of thoughts crowd his mind, erasing his own identity at times.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Splitting headaches, nosebleeds, and an identity disorder or just some of the side effects that plague Asher on a daily basis. All are brought on by extensive use of his abilities while the identity disorder is most prominent in the times where he loses control of his ability.
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦ HEIGHT: 5'10 HAIR COLOR: Dark Brown EYE COLOR: Warm brown
MISC: There is nothing particularly special about Asher's appearance. No scars. No tattoos. Nothing to make him stand out. His clothing is standard, long sleeve shirts in solid colors or minimal designing and a pair of jeans.
PERSONALITY: Asher is a quiet soul, avoiding interaction and conflict at any cost. It isn't unlikely to find him in some silent part of the library or some forgotten corner of the school reading a book. Spending the majority of his time alone does stir up some problems, however. People had begun to think he was weird or creepy, someone dangerous to be avoided. This made it difficult for him to reach out in the times he needed someone to lean on and has since pushed him away from interaction with other students all together. While he may be introverted, that doesn't mean Asher doesn't enjoy the company of others on occasion. His dry sense of humor and sweet disposition combined with an ability normally hated make him a fascinating subject.
Paranoia is another obvious trait of the young man's personality. With the ability to see into someone's mind comes the fear that someone is always watching him. While this may not be true, it is still one of his biggest fears in life. It is this that makes him hate telepathy to the point of hating himself. He invades the privacy of the other students and teachers constantly, leaving little hidden from his persistent ability. Asher, perhaps due to this profound hate of his ability, will stand up for other's and their rights no matter the cost, something that has gotten him in his fair share of trouble.
Overall, Asher is a quiet, self-loathing, sweet mess of a person who just wants to find himself.
SECRET(S): None. He's an open-ish book.
♦ THE HISTORY ♦ For the first ten years of his life, Asher had a normal, happy life. A mother that adored him, a supportive father, and a couple of close friends. But, nothing can last forever. The call came late at night, right before a camping trip that the young boy had been looking forward to taking with his parents. His father was dead, killed in a violent car crash. Devastated and with a mother who was a broken person, Asher was forced to enter his teenage years with no one to guide him. In the coming years, his mother stopped caring about life altogether, devoting herself and her money to alcohol. Soon, they were kicked out of their modest house and moved to a tiny apartment in a run-down corner of the city.
Asher became reserved, keeping to himself in school while his former friends pretended like he didn't exist. Who wanted to socialize with a recluse without a family, after all? As his fourteenth birthday rolled around he received life-changing news. His mother had died of an unattended heart condition in her sleep, leaving him with no one. Without hesitation the state claimed him and trust him into the foster system. Asher was thrown mercilessly from home to home with people that couldn't have cared less about him. The toll this took on the young boy was monumental, shoving his voice down where it would never be heard.
It wasn't until he turned sixteen that things would begin to look up. The manifestation of his ability was a terrifying transformation, something he tried his very hardest to explain away. The first time he heard his foster mother's thoughts was chilling and would continue to get worse. Frequent nose bleeds and pounding headaches were quick to follow. People were horrible, their thoughts corrupted with desire rather than need, something that sickened the boy. Within a week, Government officials plucked him from the system, explaining his abilities and whisking him off to Bellefont academy. The days that followed were nothing short of a whirlwind of confusing new experiences. Now, Asher still finds himself an outcast in the Academy, not that he minds, and is slowly adjusting to his new life.
