April flicked the switch on her ancient radio and hummed to the slightly crackling music radiating through the dusty speakers. She just couldn't bring herself to replace working parts of the car, it just felt so right. She was going to downright cry when the thing finally died and got replaced. It had been a present from her dad when she finally passed her driving test a few years ago, and she just didn't at all feel like parting with it any time soon.
She spun around with a smirk and kissed Emmett on the cheek. "Honey, I'm into everyone. Everyone with a personality at least, as long as you're a cool person, there is something attractive about you, if you ask me anyway."
Snorting, she replied. "Well I'm a bit of a spaz, so I get bored fast and tend to run around to try something new, or someone new." She drew out the someone.
April knew plenty of people that had skipped lectures and labs frequently, but she never completely understood why others thought that she would. She liked being top of the class, she enjoyed the trill she got from coming out ahead of other people she deemed to be super smart. It was this little rush she got whenever somebody got into it with her and she beat them in something, there was nothing quite like it. Although, even if she wasn't the winner competition was always fun regardless of the outcome.
"Nah, then I'd let all of the losers catch up to me, and I can't have that." She winked. "Besides that, I still manage to go out and have more fun than most of the rest of my class combined!"
April tilted her head for a moment, trying to imagine Alice in a burlesque dancing environment and smirked. "Well, I'd love to watch you dance, it would be quite educational."
She blinked. "Oh! You were asking me to come and try? Sure! I dunno how good I'll be, but I'm always down for tryin' out new things!" The blonde exclaimed, leaning into the other girl and giving her a one armed squeeze of affection.
April spent most of her life bouncing between things and people she loved to be involved in and with, with the rest of the gaps filled up by jumping first into new things. As a result, she'd fallen into things like paint balling, diving. She'd even done sky diving once, now that was one hell of a rush. Though she always seemed to come back to clubbing at some point, she just absolutely loved it.
She smiled at the contact, not saying much about it, as far as she was concerned small shows of affection were normal and didn't need much more than just a smile or similar response.
After scratching her head for the answer for a few beats she shrugged. "Well it depends on where you want to go. Seems like there is something for everyone. Clubs that cater to people like us, clubs that cater to the gay crowd, clubs that cater to the straight crowd, different genres of music, cultures." She snorted. "I feel like they pop up everywhere. Personally, I tend to go to a different one most weeks, some are more fun than others, I like some of the nerdier ones, there are some cute guys and gals there~"
April sidled up to the doorway at the end of the hallway, rocking on her heels a little as she did, with a clear spring in her step. The blonde prided herself on picking up on when people she liked where struggling with something, and them immediately pouncing and dragging them off to something more fun to make them feel better, she had a pair of paper bags in either hand with something to act as a remedy for situations like that.
She rung the door bell about 3 or 4 times to see if Callie was in. She had to be in. Why wouldn't she be in, April knew she was off work. "Hello hello?"
She snorted at the thought of Emmett enjoying a beetle that much. "My god, you're such a car geek, it's so cute!" She snorted. "I bet you were all over that customer, metaphorically and literally." She teased with a small wink. Going back to the position she was in before she snickered to herself and shook her head. "Beetles."
The corner of her mouth quirked playfully and she turned very slightly to the driver. "I don't know, I find it sort of exhilarating myself." People who knew April would have realised by this point in the friendship that about a third of her vocabulary was flirt.
Tilting her head, searching her mind for the name and eventually coming to a shrug the blonde shook it. "I don't think so, but it's a big town and I spend most of my time either working, or finding fun. Lawyers aren't normally a great deal of fun if you ask me." She snorted. "Law school looks like such a drag."
April leaned forwards while Emmett got comfortable and flicked on the heating. The only feature of her car that was truly up to par, because she probably wouldn't drive if it wasn't, and sat back rubbing her arms to stay warm until it started to kick in fully. "Mhmm, I've been there a couple of times for fun. Not too bad for entertainment." She smiled to herself. "I actually got into it from taking a trip with my brothers once, sponsored by the local police department, it was this silly obstacle training thing, but my dad was running it so I got to take part."
She mused over the memory and reminded herself to phone her dad and see how everyone was doing back home in the morning, she wouldn't do that while she was taking a friend out for fun, least of all to hear the disapproving tone of her dad. Man had sense for her actions like a bloodhound.
Once the heater had gotten the car up to nice and toasty, she leaned back a little and closed her eyes, smiling playfully. "It's nice to have a sexy chauffeur, you should think about driving around pretty rich people for a living someday." She teased.
The blonde had gently leaned into her friend when the arm was wrapped around her waist, she just adored the warmth that the contact brought along with it. She absolutely could not wait for summer, it was nice to be able to wear short clothes and not risk actual hypothermia. Also Bikini's and tank tops were hot, in the attractive sense no the temperature one.
She tossed the keys deftly to her friend before hopping into the passenger seat with a practiced jump. "Lemme just get out the nav." She murmured as she battled with her phone to get the navigator app working, pinning it to a little holster on her dashboard, the car being way too ancient to have anything like a build in sat nav.
"So what have you been up to recently, I mean other than cleaning up messes. I feel like it's been ages, which is probably my fault for getting busy with school and clubbing." She added hastily.
April giggled and turned her head quickly with a wide, mischievous grin perched on her lips. "Well Hun, you're welcome to help me in or out of my clothes anytime." she teased.
Taking the stair's more slowly while clinging to her friend, enjoying the warmth that she provided April hummed to herself during the descent. Her humming slowed as the garage was locked. "If you find out who did it and want them set alight, you know where to find me gorgeous." She joked.
April's car was a rather large old looking red Land rover, which was quite high off the ground all things considered and overall not that difficult to spot , but she always felt safe in it. Which may or may not have had something to do with the fact that it looked like a small tank. "Sure thing Hun." she hummed and fished out her keys, moving over to her car and opening the doors so she could grab her purse.
It was one of those old interiors, with a CD player that had clearly been put in there after it was made, and nothing digital age looking inside. "Your car or mine?"
April blinked in confusion as her friend went off foraging for things again, she honestly thought that Emmett would've wanted to get out of the house as soon as possible and do something else, she'd seen people on the receiving end of hate before and she'd never thought of any of them not being excited to blow of steam. Her stomach did a little flip when the girl brought her out a coat and jumper. "Awwwwwwww, Emmett!" She squeeked, giving the other girl, yet another hug.
"Thank you!" She cooed before grabbing the jacket and throwing it on over her hoodie. "I don't know why I'm not wearing more layers, but I guess my brain wasn't 100% working this morning, go figure." she muttered with a smirk.
She quickly looped her arm through her friend's and dragged her towards the door softly. "Sure, lets get going~ My car is outside, somewhere. I definitely remember where I parked."
April giggled at the mechanic's reaction. Doing a little twirl before scooping up her coffee again and taking a few sips. "My god. That is so good." She moaned. It wasn't necessarily the best tasting coffee around, but it was hot. Hot was good, especially in the blasted cold weather. At least there wasn't snow, last time there was snow she didn't leave her house for a full week before the temp had gone up again, much to the complaints of her housemates being sweated out by all the radiators being on for days.
"Paintball or something, so you can shoot at things. Indoor paintball, seriously screw this weather with a cactus." she muttered, clinging to the coffee as a life line. "Then maybe hit some bars, find you a lovely partner to come home with for some fun, or just get horrifically drunk and snuggle with a movie. I don't really know, lets just see where the evening takes us." She responded, in her usual rapid fire fashion.
Moving towards the door she gave the mechanic a wink. "Now lets go shoot something, or someone. Multiple times, with paint." She snickered as she walked past.
April grinned as the other girl swung the door open, looking slightly up-heaved, the blonde pyro quickly swooped onto the girl, wrapping an arm around her in a half hug before kissing her on the cheek. "Hey, you." she murmured before ushering herself into Emmett's apartment. She shared a house with some friends herself, so it was odd to see a friend with a nice space all to herself. April loved living with people, and bothering them with affection, and sudden nights out.
She snorted, audibly. "Hah! I'm not that much of a caffeine whore, honey." She turned back with a smirk at the other blonde. "I don't need all that much to have fun, I AM the caffeine for my friends." She chortled.
Flicking some of the hair out of her face she set down the coffees onto the nearest surface with a sigh and spun around to pounce Emmett with another hug. "I thought you could do with some extra, and then we're going out. And we're having fun? Sound good? Get your coat and drink your coffee beautiful!"
April was today clad in ripped jeans, a tank top and a hoodie, which she was immediately regretting due to the temperature drop. Doing her best not to visibly shake or allow her teeth to chatter she quickly scooted past the giant chaotic mess that was the garage on the ground floor, grimacing as she walked past she worked her smile back up as she ascended the stairs, taking them two at a time. Keeping warm was as much a physical exertion as a decision to dress appropriately, which today she had not.
The more impressive thing was that she'd managed to not spill any coffee as she ran up the stairs, to the apartment, tucking the warm carrier under one arm before knocking on the door somewhere between 6 and 12 times in quick succession, ready to pounce through it the moment that it was opened, rocking on her heels back and forth.
April let out a squeal of pure glee as she slightly toppled her friend over into an embrace. She gave her brunette friend a quick kiss on the cheek, followed by another tirade of gleeful laughter before pulling away from her. "Hey yourself gorgeous!"
The blonde swept up the sign in one quick motion and glanced over it before smirking. "I do adore your style. You're one of a kind." she supplied, tucking the sign under her arm, before glancing at the girl again, taking in her attire and smile, quickly returning to eye level with yet another chuckle. "Oh it was fine, I was one of the only delinquents smart enough to not get wasted before the last big lecture of the week." she added with a wink. "Saving it for after is much more fun, I don't gotta be draped over the desk instead of behind it this way."
She leaned into squeeze the brunette in another sudden hug before parting with a little bounce back. "So, what's the plan hun? Just hang out and see what mischief we can cause, or something more structured like attacking some clubs with our moves, hmmm?" Once the rapid fire questions were done, they were followed with a slightly raised eyebrow.
The occasional snicker could be heard from a certain smirking blonde throughout the afternoon lecture as about half of the room were part of one of the sports clubs, and as a result had gotten horribly, horrifically drunk the night before, and were wearing sunglasses, grumbling and in various states of passed out on the desks. The professor in charge of course, was used to this, so continued the tirade unhindered by the carpet of hung over students, causing the occasional twitch from them when she raised her voice.
The fire starter blonde however, had decided to stay in and finish the work for the weekend so she'd be able to go out and have a fun time, and then not flail around awkwardly in seminars. And she was oh so smug about this, even when the lesson concluded she was smirking all the way out the front door, smoothing out as she made her way out of the building before re-igniting the moment she stepped out into the crisp air, grinning at the attractive friend awaiting her.
With a more notable spring in her step, she skipped over to her friend, clad in a long sleeved shirt, skinny jeans, a fluffy jumper and then a coat and accessories on top of that. There was no such thing as overkill going outside this time of year.
Practically tackling the brunette in a hug, April squeaked with glee "Aliceeee~" as she pounced.

♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Pyro Kinesis April’s power allows her to generate flames across the entirety of her body, just an inch or so above the surface of her skin, while they are attached to her body she has the capability to control them to a degree, and form them into simple compacted shapes, like spheres. She can then release the flames into the environment, or throw them if they are shaped. However, Once released April can control the flame's density and shape to a degree, either increasing the size of the flames or putting them out.
April’s fire burns at a temperature of 1200 Degrees Celsius, about the same as most Methanol flames, and much like methanol flames April’s fire burns blue whilst it’s attached to her body. Since there is no fuel being burnt the flames attached to her body don’t give off smoke, at least until they make contact with something else flammable.
Secondary: Flame Resistant Phisyology April’s body has properties akin to asbestos. (Minus the toxicity), she has more resistance to heat sources that are close to her, and her body is much harder to set on fire than a regular human being. She doesn’t burn nearly as easily, it either takes a much longer continues exposure, or an extreme, uncommon level of heat.
LIMITATIONS: -April can only maintain her power for about a 20 minute period before it completely exhausts her, and the flames burn themselves out, needing at least a couple hours rest before she tries to produce flame again. -April can only compact the flame attached to her body into small contained shapes, like spheres, cubes and the like. And none of these can be larger than a foot (Soccer)-ball. --She can throw a fireball about 40 feet once it’s solidly formed, as they aren’t as aerodynamic as something like a tennis ball. -April has no resistance to any other kinds of burns. E.g. Chemical, Electrical, radiation, cold, ect. -April can only manipulate active bodies of fire for about 2 minutes at a time, and only a few times a day, 4-5 depending on how well rested she is.
SIDE-EFFECTS: -April’s power actively burns calories when she uses it, as a result of this she has to take in an increased amount whenever she’s been making use of her flame generation. -Using her power dehydrates her body at an increased rate, if she uses up her full duration more than once without supplanting the lost water with at least a litre more, she will likely pass out in short order. -April feels the cold more than others, being very susceptible to powers which can lower the temperature to the extreme, she also finds it harder to generate flames in this condition. Her weakness to cold starts to kick in once it drops below 0 degrees Celsius (32F) she rapidly starts to drop her body temperature, and will quickly feel the effects of moderate hypothermia, even if she’s relatively well wrapped up. In these temperatures April has to wear heavy duty thermals to avoid poor health. -While April has resistance to flames and heat themselves, she has zero protection against things they interact with, like smoke created when it connects with things other than herself, and is just as susceptible to these things as any regular human. -Obviously fire consumes oxygen to burn, so obviously in low oxygen environments, this can be detrimental to April or people around her, if she’s consuming oxygen for her flames. --April’s flame is a complete combustion similar to that of a methanol fire, produced from her own body, whilst she doesn’t produce Co2 outside of her body, the chemical reaction of activating her power causes her to produce more internal Co2. This extra Co2 is then breathed out normally, and as a result, as she approaches her time limit, she begins to feel the effects of Co2 poisoning. -If April overuses pyrokinesis to control bodies of flame she starts to build a headache, leading to a migraine and eventually passing out.
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 5’9” HAIR COLOR: Blonde, about halfway down her shoulder blades. It’s mostly straight, with a tendency to form small curls, not so much that it ever really irritates her. She’ll sometimes curl it, or completely straighten it out if she’s going out on a very special occasion but most of the time she refrains from this as she actually quite likes her hair. EYE COLOR: Hazel
MISC: Both of her ears have small sized piercings for relatively plain jewelry, a lower back tattoo, a couple of tattoos hidden from plain view, one on her lower back being a winged heart with the text "Leigh" popping out of the centre, and the other being a flame with a symbol inside of it which is on her right thigh.
April’s wardrobe is quite large and varied. She owns dresses, skirts, jeans, skinny jeans and all kinds of items in between the two. She makes a habit of trying to dress differently every day of the week. And has a small sub section of wear for whenever she’s going out into town with her friends, picking up dates or otherwise.
On an evening out, she generally sticks to leggings and provocative tops, or jeans depending on which bar or club she’s going to. PERSONALITY: April is a bit of handful for friends and family to deal with. She’s a very passionate, strong willed individual who believes in honesty and staying true to your feelings.
Due to her upbringing, she’s not afraid to be quite boisterous in social situations, being quite forthcoming with her opinion and never apologising for voicing something that needs to be said to somebody else.
April likes to see the beauty in other people, and isn’t afraid to comment on it, and pursue people that she takes a fancy too. Wanting everyone around her to have fun, whether that’s light hearted partying or hanging our getting a laugh with friends, or something considerably more competitive with them.
She has an innate desire to compete with others, and raise herself to new heights that is constantly pushing her, despite her urges to have fun. She’s not naïve or egotistical enough to believe that she IS better than everyone, or that she’s not got room for improvement, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t take pride in where she is now.
Though she is very flirtatious, April doesn’t tend to form lasting romantic bonds with others, feeling a distinct apprehension towards them.
April loves listening to music, flirting with pretty people and going out clubbing, or playing games like bowling, paintball and the like with friends. She makes a very conscious effort to try new things, and not many of them stick as hobbies.
SECRET(S): April has a fear that she will one day activate her mutation accidentally and cause problems for people around her, leading to injuries she doesn’t need on her conscience. On top of that, she has some issues with commitment to other people, never having sustained a relationship beyond a couple of months.
♦ THE HISTORY ♦
April Leigh was born to Brooke and Johnathan Leigh in Portland, Oregon. Being the youngest of 7 siblings, as well as the only girl of the bunch. Her parents met on the police force in Portland, and her mother retired to raise the kids, having inherited a fairly large house from her Grandmother, whilst her father kept on working his way up the line, constantly trying to make time for his family.
Growing up with so many brothers gave April a strong drive to be the best, as well as having much more aggressive and blunt tendencies than other girls she grew. Her brothers, by in large ended up going into the same profession as their parents one by one, continuing a long running family tradition on their Father’s side of joining the force.
As she went into her teenage years, she both grew a little closer to her mother and became more aware of herself. By the time she was 14, 5 brothers were in various positions or in training, while the 6th, only being a year older than her was much more like April and her mother, ending up wanting to go to theater school instead. This prompted April to reconsider her options for the future, given that she'd always thought she'd end up joining the force like the rest of her family.
At the age of 15 both her and one of her brother’s (Aged 16) manifested powers. April having discovered a high resistance to high temperatures and burning. This occurred when her and some friends were messing around after getting a few drinks in them at a campfire, them causing a larger fire by and April catching fire herself, yet not receiving any burns. Her brother manifested as a result of the shock of this and the both of them were picked up by recruiters within a week and sent off to the school to be taught proper control.
April's brother eventually did gain control of his power, and graduated, going on to study theater, having had a relatively painless experience of high school. April on the other hand, had a much more harrowing experience when her powers were being diagnosed, having discovered her full pyrokinetic abilities in a flashy display of setting the room on fire with her trainer. Luckily, the academy had hired the right people for the job, and nobody was injured, but as April went through the next few years of high school she struggled with gaining control of her power, particularly with the habit of manifesting flames in particular surges of passion or anger.
She did still manage to apply herself to her work and achieve top grades, maintaining a competitive streak and wanting to climb to the top. April graduated with what the school deemed was acceptable control of her powers, however she always felt a little bit nervous with them. Still very occasionally having minor incidents with her flames, though nothing that ever endangered anybody else. As a result of this she decided to go to college in the town the academy resided in, so that she could at the very least have a safety net if something went wrong.
Still in Stagfort she studied at the College in the city, hoping to become an EMT once she graduated, whilst maybe partying around a little too much.
