León Gabriel Ramos-Vásquez FACE CLAIM: Miguel Angel Silvestre♦ THE BASICS ♦ AGE: 36 GENDER: Male ORIENTATION: Heterosexual POSITION: Biology Teacher at Bellefonte Academy
♦ THE ABILITY ♦ POWER: None.
LIMITATIONS: N/A
SIDE-EFFECTS: N/A
♦ THE FREEFORM ♦ My life has been full of many surprises, you could say.
Originally I lived over in the UK, where my father had gone to study and create a new life for himself. Originally he was from Seville in Spain, but eventually moved when he met my mother. She was also coincidentally from Spain as well- Nerja to be precise -so I had plenty of the country's culture to learn about growing up. Not to mention the culture surrounding my actual home.
When I was younger I had a...generous amount of energy, to put it nicely. We used the have a dog named Chichi that my father swore was more family to me than they were. Although I argue I smelled much better. Some days anyways.
I was an only child though. Now that I look back on it, I think I scared my parents from having another. Too much work. I was the kid always having to be hushed in class. I'm certain I drove my teachers absolutely insane. I was the one who usually riled up the other kids too. Ironic then that I went on to be a teacher myself. Maybe I wanted to give something back for all those years spent driving them mad.
Although I did get better in my teenage years. Which is apparently backwards, I know. I never even went through the typical rebellious age. Or at least not at the same time everyone else did. My theory is that I burned that out when I was even younger. By the time puberty had come and gone I was starting to level out. Certainly to my parent's relief. It was around that time too when I met my favorite teacher.
He taught our biology class, you see. Very enthusiastic man. The type to bring in life-like diagrams and brain jars just to show the class. Before him I had already had a fascination with how people and animals worked. We are made of so many tiny parts that go in unison so that we are here living in this very moment. But him? My teacher made me want to know even more. He made me want to actually learn. So I suppose that's exactly what I did.
I went on to major in the subject- once I got into my university. Though at the time being a teacher hadn't yet crossed my mind. It was only after I worked as a TA that the option even came up. I liked helping others learn. I liked teaching them more about a subject I adored. My job sort of spring out of that afterwards. Well, after some more time in the university, of course.
Eventually I landed a job working for another school. I stayed there for a few years and absolutely loved it. I would have been content to stay that way for the rest of my life- but it had other plans.
When I was 25 I...nearly died. No I...I should have died by all means. I was in a terrible, terrible car accident. To this day, I'm not really sure what caused it. One moment everything was fine and the next...
...Well when it happened, I was saved by two very important individuals in my life. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes saved my life. I would not be here today if they had not been there. Nor would I likely have ended up as...undamaged as I have been blessed to be. They not only called the ambulance to take me to the hospital while keeping me stable, but operated on me as well. As luck would have it, they were both doctors. And as I've been told multiple times, it was an absolute miracle.
I managed to live despite all odds. And every moment I breath, I owe it to them. I even owe what life I have afterwards to them. Once I was physically fit again, I still needed help. Again it was the Holmes that helped me. The accident had left me...shaken to put it lightly. I couldn't get in a vehicle, no matter what it was. But working with Mrs. Holmes I managed to get better. And along the way, I met Maggie.
After the Holmes helped me, we became good friends. I don't think that kind of experience, or my grateful family, would have settled for any less. So I got to interact with their young daughter Maggie Holmes more and more. She's a sweet young girl who happens to be autistic. I hadn't had her yet for my class considering she wasn't old enough yet, but she was actually a student in the very same school I taught. After learning that, I would help her parents out by making sure she was alright. Just little things like occasionally checking up on her, driving her home, or even hosting her when her own parents wouldn't get back until much later in the evening. Though I wasn't her official carer until a few years later, I became something of an honorary uncle.
Although things certainly did get dicey when Maggie manifested. From what I had heard, St. Bethany's was a wonderful school academically. But transitioning to a new school and entirely new way of life would be hard on anyone no matter how good the place way. For Maggie this held true. I eventually managed to find a position working within the special school after going through plenty of screening. Things got a little better after that. Good enough that Maggie herself suggested a transfer to the Stateside school of Bellefonte. Her parents thought it would be an excellent way for the girl to spread her wings and get out there. But no parent is without their concern.
The Holmes ended up asking me if I could possibly look for a position in Bellefonte. The idea was that at least there would be one person there that Maggie knew and could speak to if things got particularly bad. It was, admittedly, a very big favor to ask. I had already transferred to St. Bethany's of my own volition when Maggie had manifested. But that had still been relatively close. This? I was moving out across the ocean and leaving everything I knew behind.
But I owed them that much. Perhaps even more for the fact I even had that choice to make in the first place.
It was a little easier going through the various hoops to transfer into Bellefonte after I had already worked at St. Bethany's. With support from my then-current employers and what credibility I already had, I managed to get a position teaching biology in the States. Maggie and I were bound for America. I can only wonder what it'll be like.
