The smile dropped a fraction when Teddy announced that Olivia was joining her. The time it took for Teddy to turn and go back to the desk allowed Olivia to freak out a little before composing herself, clearing her throat.
"W-we're both going?" She asked just to confirm. "Okay. Um. When do you want to leave?" She asked, her heart pounding against her ribcage. She was already trying to tell herself that this was just a work trip.

Surprise didn't quite define what Olivia was feeling then. They had been trying to crack the case open for the past few days without much budge on either side. Now they finally settled on a solution and it took all of Olivia not to jump for joy.
She was all ready to ask Teddy if she wanted her to make the travel plans for her when Teddy mentioned not having time. But then her boss asked whether she had any plans. Was Teddy sending her on a cross country trip to settle the case?
"Uh...no." She shook her head. "But I can settle your travel and accommodations in three minutes. I don't need days." She joked lightly, a hint of a smile on her face.

After the whole Emmett debacle, Olivia tried not to toe the line with Teddy. She remained professional in the office with the occasional casual familiarity of the friendship they had built outside of the office. She wasn't going to jeopardise her career over a silly misunderstanding.
Teddy however, seemed preoccupied as of late but Olivia knew it was not over a personal affair. It didn't stop her from cringing when Teddy walked over to her desk telling her that they needed to talk. She grabbed her little notebook she had habitually brought around whenever she was with Teddy and stuck a pen in the spiral spine of the notebook before following the taller woman.
She pushed against the door and stepped into the office, giving Teddy a second before speaking up. "Teddy? Is there a development in the Strasser case?"

The introduction and offered hand was met with a hesitant but firm grip of her own and a crooked smile. She wasn't going to be "that woman". She refused to. She had no claim over Teddy so she really shouldn't even be feeling so defensive. "Olivia. I'm Miss...Teddy's assistant." Her eyes flicked over to Teddy with a sheepish grin before moving back down to her computer.
As much as she tried to concentrate on her work, Olivia couldn't help but watch the interaction between her boss and her friend. The way Teddy placed her hand on the other woman's back, the way that tease - though not making sense if they actually were intimate - came so easily to both of them, and then the lean over to her instead of towards her supposed significant other...it was all so damn confusing.
The recollection Teddy offered brought light to Olivia's confusion, however dim it was. She still wasn't entirely certain Emmett was just a "case". Olivia was still recovering from Teddy's lean-in.

Olivia's dark eyes followed as the bag was set on her desk. It snapped back to the person holding it as she mentioned calling ahead. Olivia hadn't really broached the subject of Teddy's friends so she wasn't all that acquainted with Teddy's circle enough to know who to let in or not.
The answer to her question caused her smile to drop a fraction. It wasn't actually the answer but the way the woman answered it. Like there was a meaning behind it that felt so clear to Olivia. Immediately she felt stupid when she realised that this woman might be Teddy's significant other.
"Ah." She forced a knowing smile on her face as she tacked on an obviously fake laugh at the end. "Well, Miss James will be in...oh, wait there she is." Olivia was both relieved and a little upset when Teddy walked in from her conference looking like she just stepped out of a catalogue.
"Miss James, your friend is here." Olivia smiled before she gestured to the other woman then busied herself with actual work.

Having found a comfortable and familiar routine to her days as Teddy's assistant, Olivia took everything surrounding Teddy in stride. They weren't fully in sync but they both knew enough about each other to not hit too much nerve all at once.
The fact that Teddy's office was wall to wall glass did not make it any easier on the little crush Olivia had suddenly found herself having on her boss and every once in awhile, Olivia would actually drift off just staring at the commanding presence that was the brunette. She was lucky enough not to get caught because her desk wasn't directly in Teddy's view.
But it still didn't help that every time spent with Teddy only increased her attraction towards the other woman.
It was during one of those days where she was too busy thinking about Teddy that someone came to her desk and asked for the object of her thoughts. Olivia looked up and smiled at the woman, taking in her casual look. "Hi! She's not in her office right now. May I know who's asking?"

A warm smile spread across Olivia's face at Teddy's reply, ducking her head slightly as she continued to finish her food. They spent the rest of their meal in companionable silence.
Olivia tried to be subtle with her stolen glances but she had a feeling Teddy caught on to it once or twice but it didn't actually stop her from doing it anyway.
When the bill came, Teddy insisted on paying for dinner and Olivia, for once, let someone else pay for her dinner. They parted ways and Olivia couldn't stop smiling the rest of the night.

Teddy's reassurance further cemented the fact that yes, Olivia definitely had a stupid crush on her boss. The woman knew exactly what she wanted and she was more than willing to let people know it. It was scary but it was good. And Olivia was definitely caught up in it. She could have slapped herself then and there.
When the opportunity to ask more of her dinner companion, Olivia decided to lighten the mood. "How's the steak?" She gave a teasing grin.

It was a relief to hear those words coming from Teddy. Olivia was not usually the type to hinge her self-worth on people so it was weird for her to be so dependent on Teddy's opinion of her. This was all brand new territory for her and she wasn't entirely certain whether she liked it or not.
When Teddy called her act of familial obligation selfless and generous, Olivia frowned just slightly. Teddy was accurate in her thinking. Olivia honestly didn't see it that way. She just wanted to make sure Kenny was taken care of in her parents' absence. Kenny's mom and dad had roots when Olivia didn't. It was an easy decision.
She smiled anyway, even though she didn't agree with Teddy's assessment. "But you're here to make a difference on a much larger scale though, Teddy. I mean, from what you've told me, you intend to help hundreds of other people. I just care about my niece." She shrugged, suddenly feeling the uncomfortable weight of someone's high opinion of her. But it did honestly feel good that a person of Olivia's caliber thought so highly of her. "Thank you, though. That's really nice of you to say."

The question brought a small smile to Olivia's face and she shrugged. Teddy seemed to have a distinct way of asking questions that made Olivia feel like she expected more out of Olivia. Like Olivia should ask for more out of life. She couldn't explain it really.
"A little bit of both. After what happened 3 years ago...with my niece transferring, my sister got a little worried and I volunteered to come here." Olivia took a bite of her food and a contemplative look came over her face. "I'm glad I did." She said, trying hard not to look at Teddy before taking another bite.
Taking a deep breath, she finally looked at her counterpart and smiled. "I normally talk this candidly with my family. I hope you're okay with that."

Olivia believed that sentiment as well. Cam was that person for her growing up. Not having him around was a bit of a bummer but at least Kenny filled the gap.
She perked up a little when Teddy revealed that she had a brother. Immediately, Olivia began to imagine how the woman sitting across from her was like with her sibling.
When the question turned back to her, Olivia's smile softened and she nodded. Teddy was forthcoming about her family life and they were outside of the office. It wouldn't hurt to divulge the information, would it?
"Two someones, actually. My niece and nephew. She's in college at Bellefonte right now, she's the reason why I moved here." Olivia nodded and startled when the waitress appeared with their food. She leaned back so she could place the plate on the table in front of her and once she did the same for Teddy, Olivia asked for another bottle of beer before thanking her.
She had been so consumed in her conversation with Teddy that she didn't realise she was hungry until the food was in front of her. Her stomach gave a slow rumble and she chuckled. She looked up at Teddy as she picked up her cutlery. "Bon appetit." She smiled before cutting into her food.

Olivia had been a paralegal for eight years now. Ever since she started, she hadn't ever lost sight of why she did it. Sure, it fluctuated between the fantasy of being able to do what the people in TV do and to actually helping attorneys win cases but the core of it was that she knew what she did was important for other people. That she managed to get a job to help people who, God forbid, might include her niece and nephew was a lucky break.
Admittedly, however, the money did help.
Olivia smiled and ducked her head in embarrassment before forcing herself to look at her dinner mate. "You have an uncanny ability to make me feel a lot more confident about myself than I ought to be." Olivia responded, a hand sliding around the back of her neck.
"Are you the only meta in your family?" Olivia asked after taking a sip from her bottle.

The smile on Olivia's face dropped slightly before holding a hand up to stop Teddy from backtracking. "Absolutely not no." She shook her head, her hand already reaching out to grab Teddy's as an offer of comfort.
She then caught herself and retracted her hand, balling it into a fist on her lap as her cheeks heated up.
"No, I think..." she took a deep, quiet breath and licked her lips before continuing as her thoughts calmed down. "I think that's a great idea. The firm obviously knew what they were doing when they got you on board." Olivia smiled gently, a touch of shyness lacing the expression.
"I'm glad I'm working under someone with this much conviction."

Olivia took Teddy's silence as one of contemplation, despite her anxiety telling her that she had been rude to her boss. Being familiar with your superior didn't often pan out. But she kept steady in her resolve and was rewarded with an answer she didn't anticipate.
She didn't hide her smile as Teddy quite passionately stated her case to expand her judicial reach. She honestly couldn't do anything except breathe out a sigh of awe.

Olivia wasn't entirely sure what game they were playing so she kept quiet and gave a small uncertain smile. Besides, she was a lot more interested in the answer to her question. And what she got was definitely a lot more than she bargained for.
Teddy seemed to have dealt with a lot and while Olivia sympathised, she didn't think she should, seeing that Teddy was now a partner in a firm that she didn't buy her way in. The fact that she was exactly what Olivia had been wondering about made it all the worst. For her. She was getting way into Teddy than she thought was appropriate. The last time she had been this interested in someone was when she was in her early twenties. He had been handsome, successful, confident and gentle with her. Somehow, Teddy was more than that.
She blinked as she realised Teddy was still talking. Olivia leaned back against her chair and studied the other woman curiously. "Yet?"
