Being sick as someone's assistant was terrible. Even more so when she couldn't even find the energy to make sure the person she was assisting knew why she wasn't in the office. In addition to that, Olivia also felt on some level, the sickness was absolutely psychosomatic.
She didn't miss seeing the kiss Natalie and Teddy had shared in the office, something Olivia had refrained from doing because of their professional boundaries. She had held out hope when Natalie came over that there was nothing between the two women.
But the moment Natalie had put her hands on Teddy, Olivia wasn't the only one who was staring. She saw some of her co-workers looking at her like it was some kind of personal victory of theirs that Teddy had someone else. Someone who so clearly wasn't Olivia in any way.
The doctor had given her four days off work because her fever had been through the roof and though she could have taken all of them, she knew it wasn't fair to Teddy due to the amount of work they had. But as the second day approached, Olivia found herself even sicker than the day before. Her medicine wasn't working and bed rest only made the sickness bolder.
She hadn't expected anyone to come over while she looked like death but when she heard the knock on the door, Olivia groaned before wrapping her blanket around her and shuffling through the hall to get to the door. When she saw it was Teddy, she was grateful that she did looked and felt like death. At least Teddy wouldn't see her expression falter beyond her sickness.
"Teddy...what are you doing here?" She asked before a hacking cough came over her. "Sorry..."

Olivia watched as Teddy went through whatever thought process she had. Once the paralegal saw the conclusion clear in Teddy, she gave her a smile and nod.
"Just doing my job."
She didn't wait for Teddy to respond before she turned back to her computer. A little sneeze escaped her before she coughed.

The office was still quiet with the majority of the staff still at lunch so Olivia was highly aware of the clicking of heels approaching. She looked up in time to see Teddy smiling at her and she reciprocated with a cautious one. When Teddy saw the person in the office, Olivia took a breath before focusing her attention on her boss.
The question caused Olivia to shake her head.
"She brought you tea. Should I not have let her in, Teddy?" She asked, her tone surprisingly level with a hint of curiosity.

Checking her watch, Olivia estimated the time Teddy would arrive and shrugged. "I'm guessing she might be done already but it wouldn't hurt to ask."
She took her phone out just as the other woman introduced herself. The smaller brunette smiled in spite of herself. "Olivia. Pleasure's all mine."
They walked over to Teddy's office and Olivia started to call her boss. She took out the keycard for Olivia's office and waved it over the sensor before opening the door for Natalie.
The call went straight to voicemail and Olivia pocketed her phone after ending the call. "If you need anything, my desk is right there with the purple lily." She smiled once more and let the door close behind her.

Olivia nodded, maintaining her smile. She had to keep reminding herself not to jump to conclusions like how she did with Emmett, even though she knew this woman was definitely more to Teddy than Emmett was.
"Should be fine." Olivia nodded.
She started to walk towards the office before turning to the woman. "Would you like me to call Teddy for you? I can ask if she's anywhere near here already."

Olivia didn't comment about the preference, she had always assumed Teddy needed the coffee for work. She let it slide and smiled at the woman when she offered it to her. "Oh no, coffee is my saviour right now. But thank you so much." She had to be grateful for someone who took notice.
She cleared her throat. "Um, you can wait for Teddy in her office if you want. There's a possibility that she might come in earlier," Olivia offered, not knowing what else to say.
She looked at the woman again and sighed inwardly. If this was really Teddy's "more than a friend" friend, Olivia was shit out of luck.

The smile on Olivia's face tightened ever so slightly as a flashback of the last time this very scene occurred. She had to remind herself that this woman very well might just be a friend. And even if she were more, Olivia had to also remind herself that Teddy and her weren't exclusive. She had to remain professional because she was still in the office.
"Yep! You're definitely on the right track but unfortunately Teddy's out on a lunch meeting. She won't be back until two at the earliest." She responded, keeping her smile steady. "I'm guessing one of that coffee was supposed to be hers?" Olivia asked, her eyes cast downwards to the cups in her hands.

Work had suddenly become all-consuming. Late nights in the office, bringing work home, coming in during the weekends were Olivia's new normal. She adjusted well and fast but it still took a toll on her every now and then.
She was down with a cold but she was still trying to soldier on so she was at the office. Lunch was her naptime and she had just spent an hour sleeping in the break room when she saw an Amazonian woman coming out of the elevator.
Olivia coughed to the side as she approached the woman with a smile. "Hi, looking for someone in particular?" She asked.

When Teddy bid her goodnight, Olivia reciprocated and watched the other woman walk into her building. Her heart was racing as Olivia pressed the tips of her fingers against her lips, the residual heat still lingering despite the cold weather.
A smile widened on Olivia's face as she turned to go back to her car, chuckling lightly at her own absurdity.
Once she was in her car, she squealed to herself before driving home.

She ducked her head briefly with a smile when Teddy mentioned their usual dinners. When she looked up, she nodded and tucked a stray hair that had fallen out of her braid.
A shiver ran up her spine when Teddy reached forward and leaned in for a small kiss. It was too brief, too polite, and left Olivia wanting more. And so she gave in, one hand sliding around the back of Teddy's neck to keep her there for a moment as she deepened the kiss ever so slightly.
All she could think of was how soft Teddy's lips were and how sweet she smelled.
As if she caught herself doing something naughty, Olivia stopped and pulled away, biting her lower lip before taking her hand away from Teddy's neck. She looked at Teddy and gave her a sheepish grin.

Olivia nodded and smiled at the hand pat as she put the car on drive. It really would be a shame once she dropped Teddy off but she was still riding on the high of a pretty successful first official date. She wanted to end it on a good note.
They drove in companionable silence, her hand once or twice skirting over Teddy's. It felt honest to God good to be this comfortable with someone else. Even if it did confuse Olivia before, having these feelings for a woman.
When they finally arrived at Teddy's, Olivia killed the engine and then locked the car up once Teddy was out. Olivia kept her hands to herself this time as they walked up to Teddy's lobby entrance. "I'll see you on Monday, Teddy." The paralegal wondered if another cheek kiss would be overkill but she liked the gesture so much. In the end, she decided against it and just gave Teddy a smile. "Tonight was great."

Teddy's response was all she could have asked for. It felt like everything was falling into place for Olivia and she was grateful that Teddy was a patient woman.
Olivia breached the distance between them and pressed her lips against Teddy's cheek once more, lingering slightly before pulling away. "Are you ready to go home?" She asked.

Olivia looked at Teddy in surprise as she mentioned their previous dinners. Her smile grew before she stuffed more chicken in her mouth. If Teddy thought those had been dates then who was Olivia to argue?
When they finished their dinner and the instructor bid them adieu, Olivia took the basket of the leftover ingredients and they left the class.
Down at the car, Olivia once again opened Teddy's door before depositing the basket in the backseat and went over to the driver's seat to start the car. She didn't move yet as she turned to Teddy. "Thanks for giving me time to do this. It's been a weird journey for me kind of actually giving into how I feel. I'm glad you're the one with me right now."

It hadn't been her intention to talk about her ex but it had come up so necessarily that she couldn't avoid it. So when Teddy asked the inevitable question, Olivia gave out a sheepish chuckle.
"The relationship itself? It was good while it lasted. I don't remember doing a lot of uh...charming because he had been the one who took the reins most of the time. Which I didn't mind." She smiled wistfully.
It really had been a good relationship. His work just became his entire life by the end of the relationship and she had no part in it. And it wasn't like she didn't want things to work. He just didn't want to make time for her, that was the problem in the end.
"That wasn't too heavy, was it? I mean...I know we don't bring up exes until like...the fifth at least. But I was just trying to emphasise how out of touch with the dating world I am." Olivia chuckled.

The fact that Teddy hadn't realised the many times Olivia pretty much let slip that she had a thing for her made her think she had either been quite subtle or Teddy was actually just oblivious.
The latter seemed so implausible so she silently congratulated herself for having remained subtle.
"I uh...well, I guess our dinners...and when we were in New York..." And then another, much more plausible, explanation came to mind. Olivia just didn't have game. "Or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing." She gave Teddy a sheepish grin. "My last relationship was three years ago. I may be a little...rusty."
