Lena laughed, the tip of her tongue peeking in between her teeth. "Agreed." She nodded and followed the blonde's line of sight before bending down to grab her bottle of water.
Finishing half in a matter of seconds, she turned to Callie with a smile. "Would you mind practising my routine with me? The number is a little awkward without a partner in parts of it."

"Oh please," she made a gagging noise at his statement. "If anything, you'd fall for me because I'm actually lovable." She flipped her damp hair over her shoulder.
Lena scooted to make space for Damian and pulled a face when he tugged at her hand.
His question made her roll her eyes before she sighed. Lena was a big proponent of quid pro quo. Unfortunately, her shit was still unresolved.
"No." She sighed. "Shitty thing is, if I'd met her before, she would have been the type of person I would have gone for. I'd have settled with someone like her." Lena pulled her hand away from Damian to rub at her face tiredly. "I just don't want to. I've settled before, it did not sit right with me. She became clingy and possessive and I couldn't deal. I can't do that to this one."
She groaned and tipped forward, her forehead landing on Damian's shoulder. "Why must feelings ruin things? I just want sex, damn it!"

She hadn't meant the question as an insult. Mostly she wanted Damian to find it in himself to stop being self-deprecating long enough to look beyond himself. To see whether he believed enough in himself to think about how his life would affect his son's.
"Exactly. You have to be better than your ex so concentrate on that. Don't get bogged down by how you'll fail as a parent. You're good to Jace. I've seen you be good." She reached a hand out to stroke his cheek.
"You can't quit cold turkey. Give yourself some time. I'll do what I can but I'm not your keeper, Damian."

Pulling her knees up to her chin, Lena sighed. She knew how Damian was with Jace and she knew he could take care of the kid. But she wasn't the court. Her opinion was completely biased and the law always favoured the mother when it came to children.
Damian was going to need a damn good lawyer.
"Would you be any better than your ex?" Lena asked after a long pause. She wished she could help, she really did but she wasn't even equipped to help herself, what hope did she have to help someone with an actual problem that determined the future of a child?

Lena looked down at Damian, glad that he couldn't see her. She closed her eyes and let him speak. She was ready to help in any way she can. But he was also right, being a cop wasn't good odds for him.
"Maybe settle for more visitation rights first, babe. Let the court see how well it would work, Jace living with you."
She admired the fact that Damian wanted to clean up his act for his son but she knew how dodgy his ex was and she won't give Jace up so easily.

When Damian mentioned his son, Lena should have known that was why Damian called her. She didn't know much about Damian but she knew she was the only one in his life who's ever had the pleasure of meeting the kid.
Damian's son was probably the only redeemable thing about Damian and the only reason why Lena even bothered being friends with him. That and he was good in bed and occasionally he was funny.
Jace was the sweetest kid and Lena loved spending her time with him whenever Damian was allowed to bring him around. If Damian was contesting the custody, Lena was definitely ready to help.
She took a deep breath and finished her beer before pulling the towel off her head. "You're right. You're not a kid." She finally responded before adjusting herself once more on the couch so she could place a kiss on top of Damian's head. "What do you want me to do?"

She watched as Damian walked to the kitchen, knowing he just needed to do it just to do something. When he came back, she sighed, her head dipping down for a moment before she looked back up at him.
"I might have damaged a friendship because of my philandering ways." She shrugged. "I'm apparently not very good with feelings." She put airquotes around the last word and snorted, like it was news to both of them that she was stunted when it came to emotions in relationships.
After all, she worked well with Damian because of it.
"I was hoping we would fuck because I'm only good at that." She sounded bitter but the look on her face said otherwise.

Lena could count the times Damian and her have had "chats" on one hand and still have a few more fingers to spare. It was odd yet Lena welcomed them when they happened.
She shrugged when the question was posed. She took her time adjusting herself, pulling her legs up and tucking them under her as she leaned against the arm of the couch. "One of those days." She waved a dismissive hand before settling her blue eyes on his.
"You gonna tell me why I'm not writhing under you naked in bed?" She asked with a hint of a smirk on her lips.

Lena didn't take long to shower when she realised that Damian wasn't joining. When she was done, she wrapped the towel around her body, nodding at Damian's words as she made her way to her bag.
She changed in the living room and noted that his glass had clear liquid. She frowned slightly before gathering her hair and wrapping the towel around her head. She took the beer and joined him on the couch, guzzling half of the beer by the time she looked at him.
"Are you dying?" She asked.

Lena stood outside as he spoke, a slight frown creasing her forehead. He had never really been considerate when it came to their relationship outside of their sleeping together. Seeing him like this was odd but Lena needed intimacy right then. If this was his way of giving her that, she wasn't going to push him away.
It was all just perfect timing really.
She walked in, patting his cheek before throwing her bag on his couch and removing her jacket. "You're welcome to join." She said as she removed her shoes as well.
She went to his hall closet to grab a towel before going to his bathroom, leaving the door open if he wanted to join.

Natalie's words caused Lena to shake her head. "No. No that is not what I meant. Oh my God our lines keep getting crossed." She took a deep breath and released it slowly. "No, you know what, I'm being obtuse. And I'm clearly missing something because I don't know what I'm doing to make you think that I'm not trustworthy."
Lena ran her fingers through her hair, looking at Natalie in frustration. Not with her but with the situation. "I don't know what I can do to make you believe me. And I still don't know what exactly you want from me."
The redhead's blue eyes dropped to the floor before she closed it. "I can lose my need to have sex with you but I don't want to lose my best friend. You're one of two people in this entire city that I've grown close to and I don't want to lose that. But I will respect your decision if our friendship is too much for you. I won't begrudge you that freedom."

Lena didn't want things to end on a bad note especially not with someone she called her best friend. Lena had acquaintances or Lena had sleeping buddies. Natalie was...in the middle. Was it too much to think she could get away with having a best friend she slept with occasionally?
Natalie leaving prompted Lena to get up and follow her.
"Natalie," she called out, running after the brunette. "Nat, you weren't just a hook up. The past three years, I didn't know you even liked women and that night you wanted people to act on what they felt and I did. You were receptive so I continued. I didn't lie about wanting to do that with you since we met. I just didn't know you liked women until that night."
She was just rambling now and she didn't know exactly what she was saying or whether it even mattered to Natalie but she needed to make Natalie understand her thought process. "I wanted to do it again and that's why I told you about my other partners, to see whether you would be okay with it. And it didn't seem like you were so I backed off. I don't know what else to tell you to convince you that I think more of you than just some hook up. You're my best friend, Nat."
She released a shaky breath, hoping she wasn't just making things worst.

Natalie's response caused Lena to sigh and as the brunette stood up to get her drink, the redhead rubbed her face with both her hands, trying to figure out exactly what Natalie was so upset about.
Natalie had told her that she didn't care about the casual aspect nor did she care about her sleeping with other people. So what exactly was the problem?
When Natalie came back, Lena leaned against the chair and regarded the brunette. "I'm sorry, Natalie." She stared, shaking her head. "I thought I was being honest, letting you know what the deal is. But you said it wasn't about the multiple partners I have so I honestly don't know what is upsetting you."

"Wait, what?" Lena sputtered, scrambling to remember the day after and how she had done anything remotely how Natalie had described her to have done. She wanted to stay but she knew Natalie was upset so of course she left.
"What did I do?" She asked, genuinely confused.

The mess with Natalie had left Lena a little vulnerable so when she received a message from him saying he wanted her over, Lena was hoping it would evolve into that later. It was still a little weird going over to Damian's without that as the main reason though.
She had just finished a class when she got the message so she was still a little sweaty as she pulled on a hoodie. She slung her bag over her shoulder and walked to Damian's apartment. It was a crisp night and the cold woke Lena right up that by time she reached Damian's, she was a little buzzed. And freezing.
Ringing the bell and knocking on the door, Lena slipped her hands in her hoodie and waited.
