"You know how I feel about you, and you know I won't be able to commit." Lena sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. "I wasn't trying to move on with my morning like you were just a footnote. If I wasn't drunk, I would have told you before I..." Lena paused to try and find a better word than what Natalie had used. "Before we slept together."
She looked at Natalie, defeat obvious in her face. "What were you expecting of me, Natalie? Like, really. Because I wasn't lying when I said I wanted to continue sleeping with you. I'm just not looking for a relationship."

Lena looked at Natalie, dumbfounded. Even with her response, the redhead still couldn't see what Natalie was getting at.
"Like what, Nat? What did I do or not do that morning that's gotten you all twisted up?" She asked, her own desperation at getting to the truth coming out in her tone. An overwhelming need to take Natalie's hand washed over Lena.
"I don't get it, Nat. I was being truthful. I was trying to be fair to you so our lines don't get crossed. I like casual sex, I'm not gonna pretend like I don't. My feelings for you aren't gonna change that."

Her stomach dropped and it felt like there was a squeeze around her heart when Natalie finally responded. Lena could see the frustration that had built in her friend and it caused heartache to the dancer.
"Natalie, we've been friends for three years. Why would I lie about caring about you? I do." Lena's voice softened and wavered slightly. "I don't understand why you think I'm lying to you about that. You're easily the best friend I've had since I moved here."
It made her even more confused that Natalie would think so low of her.

When Natalie answered, Lena froze before her frown deepened.
"How much more honest do you need me to be, Natalie? I wasn't aware that I was lying to you about anything." Lena responded, her voice just as low as Natalie's.
She racked her brain for a time when she lied and she couldn't come up with anything. She was so confused.

Hearing the confirmation from Natalie was a blow to the redhead but she had expected this. But now all she wanted to do was know why. Natalie's next statement caused a frown to appear on Lena's face.
"What exactly is that supposed to mean?" She asked, her tone tight but level.

The walk down to the juice stall wasn't filled with the usual chatter between the two. It felt different and Lena hated it.
She paid for her drink and then found a place for them to sit. "I really don't like this energy between us." Lena finally admitted with a forced chuckle. She pressed a thumb against her brow bone, smoothing the brows down.
"I know I can't expect us to go back to normal but you're looking at me differently than before."

Unsure of their footing anymore, Lena spent the entire class going through the motions without much regard over what she was even doing. She understood why Natalie had closed up but she didn't want to accept it.
Worst still, it had something to do with her and the fact that she couldn't do anything to remedy it was bleak. By the end of class, Lena was second guessing herself before finally decided to approach Lena.
"Smoothie downstairs?"

Another short response and Lena got the hint. She didn't press on and as more people came in, she found a perfect excuse not to ask anymore.
When the topic of conversation changed, Lena forced a smile and nodded. "It's been amazing. I'll be in a trio routine with a blonde and a brunette, which is going to be so bomb." The redhead enthused.
As more people filtered in, Lena decided to give Natalie some space. "I'll talk to you later, yeah?" She squeezed Natalie's arm lightly and went back to her mat.

The distinction of pronoun had Lena smiling and nodding and she gave up stretching when Natalie gave her a short answer. Briefly, Lena wondered whether Natalie's hesitance to say more was because of their previous tension.
Which was why she pushed through, Lena style. "Where'd you meet her?" The Aussie asked, pressing on.

Listening as Natalie responded to the question, Lena perked up when the brunette mentioned that she was seeing someone.
"Nat, that's great!" Lena reached a hand out and squeezed the brunette's knee, a smile evident on her lips. "What are they like?" She asked as she changed positions but still making sure her attention was on Natalie.
Of course she hadn't expected Natalie to wallow in self-pity, much like Lena had for a bit, so knowing Natalie found someone after Lena made her feel less guilty.

Lena smiled and shrugged when Callie said her ability was cool. It was now for sure, but early days, it hadn't been. Especially since when she first started school, she didn't have any control over who she siphoned off and because most of the metas she siphoned off of were students who had no control over their own abilities, she had been victim to all their side effects.
Not to mention all the black outs she suffered when she didn't know how to switch off the abilities she siphoned.
But like Callie, Lena wouldn't trade hers for anything else. With the control she had, she really could go to town with it.
"I've got someone named Jessalynn." The Australian shrugged. She hadn't had the chance to meet the girl though. "How funny would it be if you, me and a brunette got a slot eh?" She chuckled.

Lena laughed at Callie's response. So there was something there Lena couldn't read. She simply grinned and nodded, letting it go. They were just getting to know each other so teasing had to have limits.
As Callie explained, Lena's ability picked up the subtle nuances of the power and she had to shut it off before she siphoned it off Callie.
"Oh...well, how my abilities work is that I can sense when someone has an ability but I can't figure out exactly what it is. Every ability has a very subtle mark on it that mine picks up. Although I honestly still don't know how it works but I will get tingles from it and most of the time, I know what the ability is but I've never encountered yours. That's a decent thing to have as a dancer though. And for Halloween." She chuckled. "I'm always curious about people's abilities. Just so I can identify the different marks each ability has."
Once she was warmed up enough, Lena sprung up to her heels and blew out a loud sigh of relief. "That feels good." She said. "Oh, do you know your routine and who you're performing with this weekend?"

"Oy...I can't imagine how he used to be then." Lena laughed as she twisted her body in a stretch. Callie's little joke made her snort slightly and brought up a curious thought.
"I'm sorry for asking this but what exactly is your ability? I don't recognise it." Lena asked before turning back to Callie with a curious smile.
Her abilities were always detecting something. It irked her sometimes, especially when it's an ability she didn't recognise. After fifteen odd years of it, she still didn't quite like not knowing what was causing her tingles.

Natalie's response drew a smile from the dancer. The turnabout question had her shrugging. "I'm okay, classes are classes. The girls are still wondering where you are."
Lena fell back on her rump as she began to stretch. "What's been going on with you? Tell me everything." She said, her attention fully fixed on Natalie. It may have just been a couple of weeks but for someone who relied on constant physical affection, two weeks was torture. Especially since she still felt guilty over the whole thing.

She grinned and nodded when Luca responded, glad he had a sense of humour, even if it did needed a bit of coaxing. She could definitely see herself working for this guy. As long as she didn't get fired for misconduct of behaviour.
Reaching forward to grasp his hand in a firm grip, Lena winked at him and nodded. "Likewise, Luca. And please. Call me Lena. I'm not uh...keen on formalities myself." She let go of his hand and hitched her bag up her shoulder. "You have my resume, call me any time."
She smiled widely at Luca once more before leaving the premise and doing a little victory dance outside.
