Carter wondered how much of his relationship with his brother she could figure out. Though she barely knew him, Carter had always felt the inter-connectivity of the twins had been obvious. One barely moved without the other and now, there was an ocean between them.
When she moved away, he twisted his body to watch the way she moved.
"I like to think that when I have children, I'll take more joy in the process of photographs." He said then. They had time to kill, it seemed, so surely she could indulge him a little.

His words surprised her enough to halt her search. "You say that like it's inevitable." Perhaps it wasn't as much the kids that surprised her, but the aspect of Carter ever settling down long enough to have them. Of course, that too, might be considered inevitable in the grand scheme of things, though she'd never considered it a possibility.
Was that unfair of her?
She turned to face him properly for maybe the first time. "But I think you'd be good at it." It was a passing thought, but she did mean it. He had a patience that seemed heaven sent. Any parent would envy that.
That was a question Carter had never been asked for. Then again, he'd never talked about the idea of children with anyone before. Such a thought had yet to reach him.
"Doesn't everyone assume that?" He asked her then, shrugging his shoulders; "Apart from the people who adamantly don't want them, of course."
Good at it. He scoffed at first, then settled on the notion. "My father was excellent. Is excellent, I should say. And my uncle has always been like a second father." He mused aloud; "I think that would be Dom. Rough as he is, I think he'd care for a child of mine like no other."
Moving out of the hallway and into the living room, she swept the area for her phone before returning her attention to him. "I think the older generations are more those who do the assuming." It seemed, at least to her, that the younger generations didn't plan far ahead and rather took things one step at a time. She wasn't sure. Her sources were limited, but that was the best guess she could make given what information she had.
She smiled at that; She didn't know his family, nor could she see Dom in such a position, but he spoke with such conviction. It was... Nice. "Watch out, you're starting to sound a little excited." She couldn't help the smirk that formed on her lips.

Carter could hear how she found that funny. The way he spoke about the future really did make it seem like it was set in stone. Finally he drew himself away from the pictures that seemed to captivate him so much. Instead, with hands still fastened in his pockets, he followed the idle steps she was making.
"I'm not getting any younger, Luxanna." Carter replied, finally glancing back in her direction and offering a humoured smile.

Was he seriously considering it? Of course, it wasn't something he was considering in the moment, but in general? It struck her as odd, though, then again, she'd never given the idea of Carter exploring that side of things. Maybe she'd thought he'd continue down the path he always had.
Change wasn't something that came easy to people, she'd come to learn.
"You're not exactly running out of time, either." She pointed out. Men rarely did.

When they met all those years ago, Carter knew she mustn't have ever considered that he would speak like this. There was a difference, now. Age and wisdom and all that. They were such things he never thought he'd catch.
"Are you saying you've never thought about this?" He asked her then. Surely he'd given enough of himself to this conversation to earn a little back from her. If not, it wasn't as if he'd regret confiding in her. They were friends, after all.

They were nearing the kind of conversational topic that Lux didn't necessarily enjoy thinking about. She had thought about it, of course. She moved to the couch and dropped down, pulling her legs up with her. She fell silent for a moment, wondering how she could best answer his question without having to answer more.
"I'm female, of course I have." Maybe that would humor him enough. She even added a humorous smile to enhance the joke. Still, she wasn't sure if she could properly hide how uncomfortable she suddenly felt about it. Instead, she turned her attention to her hands. It was the only way she knew how to.
"So, how many would you want?"

"Some women don't think about it because they don't want them." Carter said quickly. Then again, he supposed they did have to think about it in order to get to that conclusion. Best to let it be. He was hardly one to speak for women.
He felt the spotlight back on himself, and he was never really one to shy away from that.
"I'm not sure. I don't think you get a choice on that. Not really." He followed her steps now, moving into the living room and sitting on an adjacent chair; "If I didn't have twins, I'd be pissed." Carter added with an immediate laugh.

Her efforts to shift the conversation seemed to work. She didn't much care for the reason as to why. She felt relieved, it was all that mattered.
The brunette smiled at that; It was a foreign concept to her, having a twin, but she supposed it made sense. People often sought out the things they were familiar with. What they knew.
It was nice, though. Hearing him talk about his future like that. "That doesn't surprise me at all." She mused.
"Look at you, planning ahead."

Reaching back, Carter drew an idle cushion forward and allowed his fingers to dance across the material. It gave him something to do as he waited. He leaned back in his seat, head against the rest as his eyes glanced up at the ceiling.
"Just considering the inevitable, I suppose." He continued on, shrugging his shoulders at the fact. "I've never been entirely sure if twins can be hereditary, but my father's a twin, and so was his." All in a perfect line of duplicated boys. Still, he had to laugh about it. It all seemed incredibly funny for him to sit there and say.
"I hardly want to be the anomaly in such a perfect lineage."

Now, Lux would never claim to know a whole lot about the way genes worked, but if there was one thing she knew, it was they had a way of being passed on. "Well, at least your chances are greater than most, I'd assume." She offered a slight shrug at that; to her, it made sense. He had it in his genes, who was to claim that didn't up his chances?
She chuckled then, even tempted to roll her eyes. Perfect? Now, that sounded more like the Carter she knew back then. Still, she supposed the change was a breath of fresh air.
"I don't think you could ever be considered an anomaly. At least, not in the bad sense of the word." Another shrug; It was the truth.

Was that a compliment? Carter tilted his head to the side in curiosity as he looked towards her unexpectedly. That was the last thing he thought she'd do. Not to say she was often careful with her words, but in his presence, he assumed she would be.
"And if I don't have a child, who will I belittle into taking on the family business when I die?" He said jokingly; "Who will be my greatest disappointment when they instead opt for the riveting career path of a bartender?"

Lux's eyes narrowed at that. "Hey." She pursed her lips. "Being a bartender is pretty great, I'll have you know." Had it not been childish, she would have been tempted to stick her tongue out at him. She wasn't mad or even offended. Why would she be? Even Lux knew that being a bartender couldn't even be weighed against the prospect of running your own business. Especially not with, what she assumed was, a multi-million dollar company.
Even Lux felt the challenge being presented to her, and even she couldn't walk away from it.
She pointed a finger at him, though. "At least I'm not riding daddy's back to get through life." She raised her eyebrows at that, the corner of her lips quirking upwards.

Grinning from ear to ear, Carter looked away from her as she called him out and instead his attention turned to the little pillow he twisted in his grasp.
"Oh I'm sure." He replied sarcastically, nodding his head along to the fake sentiment. He didn't need to look to know she was pointing at him, readying her aim for a quip of her own. And what a shot it was. He covered his chest with the cushion instantly, like pressure to a gunshot.
"Twice in one night." Carter pointed out then, eyes feigning pain as they narrowed in on her; "You do so love to wound me, Luxanna. Is this a new hobby of yours?"
