Teddy's surprise was duly noted and Olivia was quite glad she was able to coax that out of the otherwise put-together woman. These were big changes for Olivia by a mile so knowing it affected someone else as much as it did her was quite validating.
She smiled as she listened to Teddy, licking her lips as a smile curved on them. "Thinking about it now, I don't think I was trying to be." She shook her head in amusement. "I was worried I was being too overt in my advances and I didn't want to do it while you were with someone else."

Emmett continued to find great humour in acting like they were a couple. And as Teddy thought about it, she knew she'd never really told her not to. At least Olivia knew better, and despite how she'd made the assumption in the first place, it was a relief to have been able to clear all that up.
Of course Olivia would worry about every aspect of herself when she'd been so unsure. Teddy seemed eager to wave it off.
"Honestly, I didn't see a single advance from you." Teddy pointed out. It was hard not to find it all a little funny. "Did I miss something?" If she had, she'd certainly like to hear about it. No time like the present.

The fact that Teddy hadn't realised the many times Olivia pretty much let slip that she had a thing for her made her think she had either been quite subtle or Teddy was actually just oblivious.
The latter seemed so implausible so she silently congratulated herself for having remained subtle.
"I uh...well, I guess our dinners...and when we were in New York..." And then another, much more plausible, explanation came to mind. Olivia just didn't have game. "Or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing." She gave Teddy a sheepish grin. "My last relationship was three years ago. I may be a little...rusty."

As Olivia rattled off potential points in their time together, Teddy used every opportunity to retrack and reconsider her prior statement. Every offer reminded her of how different things could have been if either had the capacity to front up. She'd even shared a living quarters with her for days.
A three year relationship? Now they were in a later date conversation. Still, she couldn't ignore the opening offered to her. If she'd been asked to open up, she knew Olivia would grant her the same courtesy.
"What was that like?" She had to ask, leaving it open for Olivia to respond tho whichever aspect she wished.

It hadn't been her intention to talk about her ex but it had come up so necessarily that she couldn't avoid it. So when Teddy asked the inevitable question, Olivia gave out a sheepish chuckle.
"The relationship itself? It was good while it lasted. I don't remember doing a lot of uh...charming because he had been the one who took the reins most of the time. Which I didn't mind." She smiled wistfully.
It really had been a good relationship. His work just became his entire life by the end of the relationship and she had no part in it. And it wasn't like she didn't want things to work. He just didn't want to make time for her, that was the problem in the end.
"That wasn't too heavy, was it? I mean...I know we don't bring up exes until like...the fifth at least. But I was just trying to emphasise how out of touch with the dating world I am." Olivia chuckled.

A glimpse of a past relationship was still worthy for Teddy. She was an expert at dissecting everything given to her, even if it sounded like next to nothing. By now, she knew this woman knew that about her, but she had to wonder if she catered to that ability or not.
Her interpretation of most relationships was that one person harboured the force and the other didn't. That balance of power flipped depending on the situation, and by the sounds of it, Olivia was the latter more often than not.
"Not at all." Teddy eased her mind with an equally soft tone of voice, "If you consider how many times we've been to dinner, we're well past five."

Olivia looked at Teddy in surprise as she mentioned their previous dinners. Her smile grew before she stuffed more chicken in her mouth. If Teddy thought those had been dates then who was Olivia to argue?
When they finished their dinner and the instructor bid them adieu, Olivia took the basket of the leftover ingredients and they left the class.
Down at the car, Olivia once again opened Teddy's door before depositing the basket in the backseat and went over to the driver's seat to start the car. She didn't move yet as she turned to Teddy. "Thanks for giving me time to do this. It's been a weird journey for me kind of actually giving into how I feel. I'm glad you're the one with me right now."

Following along, Teddy settled in the seat in the passenger's side of the car. She immediately turned her attention to Olivia once she sat down, catching her eyes the moment she was granted them.
Though they had completely different stories, Teddy could sympathise with what she was feeling. It was always a difficulty looking at someone she worked with in a different light, but she had an open mind about Olivia. She seemed worth the attention.
"I'm glad you took the time to think about everything." And she was even more grateful for the conclusion Olivia had drawn; "For what it's worth, I really do like spending them with you."

Teddy's response was all she could have asked for. It felt like everything was falling into place for Olivia and she was grateful that Teddy was a patient woman.
Olivia breached the distance between them and pressed her lips against Teddy's cheek once more, lingering slightly before pulling away. "Are you ready to go home?" She asked.

Teddy couldn't help but smile at the connection against her cheek. It argued for just how far Olivia had evolved since last time they spoke about anything potentially person. Physicality between herself and someone who could have still been so unsure was something Teddy was all too willing to leave up to the woman she worked with. Every boundary was hers to draw.
At the prospect of going home, she considered the amount of fun she'd had in present company. It was bound to be a shame to cut things off but it had to happen. All dates had to end. "Ready when you are." She said patting her hand lightly.

Olivia nodded and smiled at the hand pat as she put the car on drive. It really would be a shame once she dropped Teddy off but she was still riding on the high of a pretty successful first official date. She wanted to end it on a good note.
They drove in companionable silence, her hand once or twice skirting over Teddy's. It felt honest to God good to be this comfortable with someone else. Even if it did confuse Olivia before, having these feelings for a woman.
When they finally arrived at Teddy's, Olivia killed the engine and then locked the car up once Teddy was out. Olivia kept her hands to herself this time as they walked up to Teddy's lobby entrance. "I'll see you on Monday, Teddy." The paralegal wondered if another cheek kiss would be overkill but she liked the gesture so much. In the end, she decided against it and just gave Teddy a smile. "Tonight was great."

Comfortable silence was something Teddy lived for in any kind of relationship. Forcing small talk was her forte, but she didn't like to use it when she didn't have to. Olivia was accommodating in every way, especially when she actually got out of the car to walk with Teddy towards the entrance. A hand in her pocket fiddled with a set of keys she wouldn't need for eleven floors, but it was habit to get them ready.
"It really was." She admitted, eyes catching the genuine notes of the smile given to her. "Let me know when you want to do it again. I'm still not opposed to usual dinners." They might have developed a new twist as feelings grew, but that wasn't a bad thing.
Reaching out with her free hand, she pressed her palm against the small of her back and she leaned in to kiss her lightly. It might have been a small connection, but it was surely worth its weight.

She ducked her head briefly with a smile when Teddy mentioned their usual dinners. When she looked up, she nodded and tucked a stray hair that had fallen out of her braid.
A shiver ran up her spine when Teddy reached forward and leaned in for a small kiss. It was too brief, too polite, and left Olivia wanting more. And so she gave in, one hand sliding around the back of Teddy's neck to keep her there for a moment as she deepened the kiss ever so slightly.
All she could think of was how soft Teddy's lips were and how sweet she smelled.
As if she caught herself doing something naughty, Olivia stopped and pulled away, biting her lower lip before taking her hand away from Teddy's neck. She looked at Teddy and gave her a sheepish grin.

Politeness, despite it all, seemed like the best approach for someone so potentially unsure. A rejection to something physical would have likely bounced off Teddy's high confidence with ease, but she couldn't very well stand there in odd silence and leave with next to nothing. She had deserved high reciprocation for every little physical cue she'd been giving all night.
An unfamiliar hand tracked tot he back of her neck and stopped her from thinking she should stop short. For a second or so, she could tell it got heated, and then she eased right back. A hand left her and she let her own slip away.
She glanced down, dropping eye contact and picking up a grin before she searched for her eyes again. "Goodnight." She said with a slight nod, before finally walking through the door.

When Teddy bid her goodnight, Olivia reciprocated and watched the other woman walk into her building. Her heart was racing as Olivia pressed the tips of her fingers against her lips, the residual heat still lingering despite the cold weather.
A smile widened on Olivia's face as she turned to go back to her car, chuckling lightly at her own absurdity.
Once she was in her car, she squealed to herself before driving home.
